no replaceable chip

Bandit - I was not going berserk, I just felt my points needed a little extra emphasis.

1)  A pass through would have been nice, hell why not use one of those USB ports up front?

2)  A nice piece of Flash ROM in the PS2 for cases like this when an update comes out and you don\'t need/want to monkey with extra hardware.  Simply load up the CD, it flashes the "BIOS" and boom I got a nice new workable remote with great new features without having to go out and buy a $35 piece of hardware that should be only needed to save my games on.

I LIKE my PS2, don\'t get me wrong.  But some times a little extra thought and effort by Sony would make me LOVE the PS2.

well you arent spending $35 just to install an updated dvd driver, you are also using it to save games and stuff. and it probably would cost more money to add a Flash ROM into the PS2, or many they thought it was unnecessary since they have the 40GB HDD coming out

The US and UK PS2\'s have a Flash ROM, and I can\'t understand why Sony don\'t use it!. One reason could be that the Flash Rom is only 1MB and the updated drivers are bigger than they expected @2.2MB
Playing: GTA3 (96%) - Pro Evo Soccer
Wanted: HALO - MGS2 - JSRF - VF4 - FFX - SC2 - PROJECT EGO - TS2

Maybe the new scph-30001r has a larger flash ROM of say 3 or 4 meg. That way SONY could fit the new DVD driver onboard....

Or they might have updated them allready so you dont need to waste 2.2MBs on the memorycard :)

I hope Sony sends me a NEW ps2 with the new drivers.. Was it the 2.10 drivers?

The PS2 DVD player sux azz.  Trust me.  2 trips to be fixed and now 5 months later, acting up again.

thats why you go to EB, buy the system from them with the warranty, if anything happens, return your PS2 and they give you a NEW PS2, no repairs
