Changing File Formats

I downloaded a music file and it is a MPEG. How do I change it too a WAV file.
Please help me!

Get QuickTime and open the MPEG file.  Then just change the ending to ".wav" and save it...then again, there\'s probably easier ways...

but... it didnt work. Quicktime cant open it. Not the right format.
I can open it in Windows Media Player, but I cant save it in that, well not that I know of.

Didi you use QuickTime 5 or the one that came with the computer? B/C you need QuickTime 5...which can be found here:

You\'re welcome...

This is very easy.  First, I assume that by "mpeg" you mean the file is an mp3.

1.  Use WinAmp as your mp3 player.  If you don\'t have it, download it free from http://www.winamp.com
2.  Open the mp3 file with Winamp.  In Winamp options, select "preferences."
3.  On the tree, select "Plug-ins - Output"
4.  Select "Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in v.1.0 (x86)"
5.  Play the mp3.  You won\'t hear anything because Winamp is writing it to a file on your hard drive in wav format.  I don\'t know exactly which directory it will be in, but it\'s probably the Winamp directory.

BTW these instructions are based on Winamp v. 2.72.  I know there is a slightly newer version 2.77 available now, but I wouldn\'t think that it\'s that different.

i just dled a different program to do it for me - oh well good to know i dont need it anymore

and the default folder of where the file is put can be changed - i think its set to just c:/ at first though

Yes, It´s a non-well known feature of Winamp. That´s very useful when you haven´t got any program to save wav to mp3 in your pc. It works fine.

ok I have this problem, I  downloaded this mp3 but the biatch  named it with a zip extension. How do I rename it???

Ok Metal_Gear_Ray, i will try to explain you a bit how to change file extensions.

You have a zip file and you must rename it to a mp3 in order to listen the song. Well, firstly, open your "My PC". In the top you have different menus, like File, Edition... Click on the third one (It´s something in english like see or watch).

Now, in the bottom of this menu you have to click in FOLDER OPTION. It will open a new window with 3 labels. Choose the second one, again see or watch, I don´t know how it is called in english.

It will appear a lot of options about files and folders. In the 5th mark or about you have a option that says: Hide extensions of well known files or something like this. This option must be clear, without a "X". Accept.

Now, if you go to My Documents or any file folder, you can notice, every file has the extension in its name. Don´t erase completly this extension cause archive won´t be recognized by Windows. But YES you can change the extension easily.

For example if you have Metallica.zip, erase the zip extension and write mp3. Now, if the file is a song, you will have a mp3 file.

If you follow these steps you´ll do it easily, if have problems, tell me.

If you get a file that has a .zip extension, YOU NEED TO UNZIP FIRST.  Zip is a data compression format, so you need to unzip the file using WinZip.  That will extract the mp3 file or whatever it is, then you can play it using your mp3 player.  Simply renaming it to mp3 won\'t work.  :rolleyes:
