Smugglers Run 2: Hostile Territory Review
« on: November 04, 2001, 09:15:28 AM »
I tried to pick this game up the day it came out but, THPS3 came out the same day and I didnt have enough money. :) But yesterday I did. Those of you that have played Smugglers Run and enjoyed it, will totally love this game! I thought the original Smuggers Run was great, Wait till you pick this game up. Im only on mission 13 but from what I know so far this game blows the original away by far!. The second game has everything the first one didnt. Although there is still no Replay option. This game is a lot more hardcore, fast paced action. Theres still only three levels but they are massive, and they have different aspects of day(stormy, day, dawn, ect)  and it really does add to the effect of the game. Theres also night missions where you have to wear night vision goggles to see. Its nutty.
Theres some VERY hardcore automobiles to choose from, the new ATV Monster you can romp through levels with comes to mind. :D Its badass. All vehicles have different countermeasures, example: The Super Buggy has a special boost that makes you haul mad ass, and The baja truck has bombs you can place and blow the **** out of the cops/gangs chasing you and damages them out giving \'em new ace combat type flying lessons. :surprised Its great! As I said, each car has a different countermeasure and they all are VERY affective and it adds a lot to the game.
Theres also In-Game movies which add to the plot, no more black chick egging you on during the game talking jibberish.
The first game had one car, for one misson. In the the second game, Its no longer like that. Certain missions have you smuggle, go to a wherehouse, jump into another vehicle and finish the mission. The missions are a lot longer aslo.
In the first game you could run cops strait into a tree.. they would just back up and keep coming at you, this time however, If you run them into a tree they blow up!(maxs their damage and stalls their engines) although its not permanent it does give you the distance to loose them. Not to mention the mines and bombs you have to dodge throughout the missions. If you run over a mine, you yourself will take those flying lessons, and I do mean FLYING. You launch way into the air as your engine stalls due to damage. This game is definately what I expected and more. So those of you that like some hardcore action, dodging mines and bombs while trying to evade the authorities. GET THIS GAME. It is well worth it. :smokin:
One More Thing: I cant forget to tell you how outstounding the AI works with teams. Say you can have four people on a team, theres forwards, backs, corners, and guards. Each different position adds to the team: Backs attempt to smash a enemy near by, Forwards go right ahead and pick up/deliver the contraband, Corners head to the enemy drop off point and attemp at all cost to steal the contraband from a drop off, And guards follow a teammate(the forward) and protect them from oncoming enemies trying to steal it from them. You really dont know how well this works and how they do it until you play the game. Its incredible, youd think theres one of your freinds driving the baja truck coming strait at you coming out of nowhere to jack your ass and take off with the contraband. The AI is mind blowing in this game! :surprised :surprised

It delivers on that promise!  It\'s tons better and I personally thought the original was one of the very best launch titles.  Is it just me or is Rockstar quickly becoming one of the most prominent and consistent companies in gaming?  Rock on!  :{>

Yup, and all of them have that Rockstar feel to it..

They all kinda seem familiar too each other.. Am I the only one that notices that?

One thing that really sticks out... Most of their games have to deal with running from the cops. :D

Are you insane! I love her character, she stays.

Smugglers Run 2 is definately up there with those games IMO. Silent Hill 2 is just totally in a different category.
