Resident Evil Series: Gone forever?
« on: November 05, 2001, 12:57:48 PM »
I read today in a current magazine that gamecube has a contract that signs 6 Resident Evil games: RE1, RE2, RE3, RE:CV, and there also is a prequel coming out that is strictly due for the GC called Resident Evil 0, then theres RE4! which is due late next year or even maybe early 2003! Im dissapointed. Although there is already Code Veronica out for the ps2 which IS one hell of a game...
It seems that Nintendo is trying to prove all its critics wrong by taking the RE Series away from us and having some mature games available for GC, not just games that are interesting kids of an average of 2 years old. ;) BUT taking away the Resident Evil Series! C\'Mon they cant make a good survival-horror on their own or what?!

Yep.  Sucks, but it means more Onimushas and Devil May Crys for PS2 owners.

When I first read the topic I thought you meant that the whole Resident Evil Series was finishing on all formats. That would be fine as it would have ended in a good place. The fact that theres going to be more games and not on the PS2 is pretty bad. However I still think it will be released on the PS2. I can\'t see it being a GameCube exclusive.

Well guys, not that I\'ve minded Resident Evil on the PS at all, but its not like Nintendo is "stealing" the series or anything. For one thing, Capcom owns it and DECIDES who to give it to, so its not like Nintendo\'s forcing a takeover. For another, arguably the best RE game, Code:Veronica, was made for Sega Dreamcast exclusively originally and only brought to PS2 now, more then a year and 1/2 later with VERY little added, so its not even originally a PS2 game, just a copy brought to the system to make more money. For a third, the same kinda thing happened when Playstation was getting famous. Capcom "grew up" and created its greatest games for more then 10 years for the original nintendo, game boy, and super nintendo, before coming to Sony and making a few good games. The only reason Capcom (and Konami and Squaresoft and most other of the greatest game companies) stopped making games for nintendo and went to playstation was the lack of a disk drive, arguably nintendo\'s only mistake over the years, and now that nintendo\'s back with not only a disk drive, but the entirely next technology from PS2, its just going back to its original and most prosperous and famous home after a few years break in order to make the best games with the best hardware and technology. I believe you\'ll see most of the main companies do the same soon enough. As for the "stealing the popular series to get famous" bit, that\'s the entire reason for all of Playstation 1 and 2\'s best games, short of a small few. The Final Fantasy\'s, The Metal Gears, the Castlevania\'s, the Megaman\'s, and many other EXTREMELY popular games on playstation consoles are all games which had almost 90% of their games on Nintendo and only the last few sequels on playstation systems. By the way, many of these series will probably return to Nintendo in a small amount of time. If anything, it would just be a justified return home for all these companies like Capcom (named after CAPtain COMmando, its first game on, yu guessed it, Nintendo) and their games.

NewsFlash : Capcom is a third party developer, which means they have are not bound to one system, with any one franchise, unless they sign something. Resident Evil was never exclusive to Sony and apparently Nintendo offered some nice money to get Resident Evil exclusive for awhile. I wouldn\'t be surprised to see Capcom dividing more franchises up among the three contenders (example: DIno Crisis 3 for the XBox,etc)...

Well whatever it is! Although Code Veronica is the best RE that came to be, We gamers on ps2, cant and wont expect to see Resident Evil 4 ANY time soon hence the game not even coming forth until late next year maybe early 2003... we wont get close to seeing it on ps2 for a minimal of up to two-three years unless we get a GC or play someone elses. WEAK!
But yes, you can expect to see sequels for Onimusha and Devil May Cry. Theres no worry about these games as DMC is pretty set in and glued to develop for the ps2.

Yup there is only so much pi$$ poor handeling system that you can take before you get sick of the whole series.

i have played all 4 RE games RE1 RE2 RE3 RE CV and the Control system has stuck in the original game :(

thats why DMC was so refreshing

Fast FLUID GAME PLAY is such a JOY :D

I agree my fellow agent.

Also, the idea of being one of those guys searching for another missing member, friend, or whatever is getting old.  They should just retire the series.  It\'s starting to get Tomb Raider-ish IMO. :)

The only different between Tomb Raider and Resident Evil was that the Tomb Raider games got kinda suckier to play. As in the RE ones, it wasn\'t THAT bad. They stayed pretty decent.

Resident Evil & Shenmue

The 2 greatest franchises, ever.

:fro: :fro: :fro:
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

The simple fact that people are comparing Devil May Cry and Onimusha to Resident Evil is depressing to me for one. Resident Evil is WAY beyond them in quality. True, I loved DMC (and kinda liked Onimusha) and thought it was a well done and awesome game to play when it came to fun, but at its basis all it is, is an excuse to walk around blowing the hell out of things. Same with Onimusha, even more so, hell even the ideas are somewhat similar (i.e. demon lord is going to be revived, loner warrior/hero must go through demon hords and strange demonic places while being semi-demon themselves (Sanosukes armlet) until at the end they destroy the dark lord). That\'s all, its just Capcom testing and perfecting their new technology methods with decent games while taking the time to make (or remake) the next Resident Evil games as best as they can. The plot in DMC and Onimusha is virtually non-existent, and you rely only on one character (and two tiny ones in Onimusha). The plot in Resident Evil is expansive and continues to get deeper and raise more questions and secrets, while providing an entire cast of characters. Graphics-wise and stuff DMC has an advantage simply cause it was made later, if an RE game had come out at the same time, it would be just as cool and pretty. When it comes to the control system I have no clue what you\'re talking about. True it was new (and therefore confusing) and a little bulky in the first game, but they\'ve hence refined it ad infinitum. There were times when DMC became almost unbearable as well with confusing controls. I have no clue where you get off saying RE is "tired" and like Tomb Raider and needs to stop, since 99% of the gaming world would disagree with you. Most people agree that other then the Metal Gear Solids, RE is the greatest non-sports or RPG game out today.

Yo dsojourn, you are new so hi.

But I would encourage you to break up your posts into paragraphs or something cause they are long and I didn\'t read either one.
