Import Games - what do I need?
« on: November 06, 2001, 01:56:53 AM »
As a complete useless moron not worthy of tasting the scum from between Sony\'s ass cheeks (a European PS/2 owner)
I am alwayys told I should wait for new games, rather than have them staright away like more deserving people (americans etc).  But I\'m tired of waiting and I want new games now!!! I want to live in a world wher my kids can say "I want this game daddy" and I go "there you go kids" rather than saying "wait till the americans have had it 6 months first - you don\'t want anything state of the art now..."

So I want a converter/chipping/similar to let me play imported games.

I would rather not chip my machine as still in warranty, so are there any boot disks (like dreamcast) that let you play imports or similar device on the market?

Ideally it would get around DVD stuff too (including RCE or wahtever the new more "bastardly" region encoding is called.)

Tell me what to ask for /buy please!

Incidentalyy for teh record, just bought a ps/2 with GT-3 and am gonna get Tony Hawks 3 next, on 23rd Nove (uk release).

**** Note to mods - nothing in this thread is to do with piracy. ****

Hi welcome to the boards. Yay another UK PAL gamer. The more the merrier.

BTW check out GTA 3 whilst your at it. :)

Ok I know what you mean about being a PAL gamer. Well importing is a reality even though it isnt a great reality.

DVD can be beaten by simply purchasing region X. Just a simple swap trick with the region X disc and you can play any region DVD movies. It also removes the green screen you see if you use a RGB scart cable. Region X can be purchased from HMV and Virgin Megastores for £19.99.

Importing games is a little trickier.

The only chip currently on the market for importing games is the PAL Origa chip. However details of it are very sketchy.

Alternativily you can use one of the current chips on the market which plays backups and buy the import game, make a *legal* backup of it and play this legal backup.

Finally and this is probably the best solution - the messiah chip. Its being released around the end of this month for £40 and does the lot. DVD all region, removes green screen, plays import original games along with a host of other stuff which I won\'t go into as its to do with piracy and I and the mods don\'t condone it.

There is NO disc on the market to allow you to play import games without modding your PS2. Although this is a rumoured possibility for the future but it could be some time.

In short importing original games and playing them on your PS2 with ease will be a reality very shortly even though it will require you to invalidate your warrentee.

Hope this helps.

Rich.
