Nah...I\'d say drifting is faster through a corner than going sideways. At least from my autocrossing experience. And I read an interview with Richard Burns and he also said the same thing. However, it depends on the corner and what come after the corner where drifting or slideways should be implemented.

And for the record, I beat a Viper at the autocross last year! The blue on with the white broad stripes down the middle. I had him beat by a good 3 seconds! I drive a Subaru Impreza RS with a slightly modified suspension. Drifting was a factor at this one corner that led to a short straight (they\'re always short so this benefitted my car over the Viper\'s abilities) into another chicane. The viper lost to much traction around the super tight corners.

Oh well....a larger course on asphalt, the Viper would have toasted me. Then again, the STi may arrive in two years. So.....maybe not! :D

Luckee.  I drive an Audi A4..  Modified.  Was gonna get an S4, but I really wanted to modify an A4 and kick some S4\'s around..  ohh what fun..

I hang out with the Subie crowd, the Audi crowd, just about anyone who is a car enthusiast.  I can\'t stand Zealots, and most over Zealot people I know drive the wanna be muscle cars like Camaros (no offenise to Unknown) and cars like that (mostly american cars)

So thats where most of my bitterness lies, is with them not neccisarily american cars.

Cars are cars and I pretty much love em all!

Man I so agree with everything u just said. I hate those muSTANK and camaro guys the most..espescially the V6 ones..they think they are such hot s**t!!

I swear they seem to think "if it aint got a 8 or bigger, its crap" So I just smile at them as I pass in my 4banger, which usually nets a me a middle finger, or a fly-by later on down the road.

Drifting is the slowest way to get around a corner?? where did you get that? I\'m talkin\' about those 4 wheel drifts if your wondering.  As I stated I always tend to corner faster with a RWD car, if you know how to drift you will know what I mean. :clown:

Yea, the high hp rwd cars dont tend to do all that well onshorter and tighter autox course\'s. I love kickin vette booty. I even have a 360 modena kill under my belt :D

Lion..I said *usually* drifting is the slowest way around a corner..like I said before..it depends on the cars *set-up* and the *type of corner*.

**EDIT** Ok..I didnt say it exactly like that at all...But twas what I meant:D

Im in the process of learning how to drift a FWD car the correct way now...so far it isnt tooooo bad, but im not liking it compared to awd and rwd.

drifting a FWD car? that\'s hard, but probably not impossible... how do you go about trying it? do you pull the e-brake during cornering? or do you brake hard? I never done it personally so kinda wanna know how you guys do that.:eyemouth:

I guess what\'s hard is not to start the drift in FWD car, rather keeping the drifts...how exactly do you do that? since the working wheels ain\'t the rear ones...

Stiff suspension makes it easier to do..  It is possible.  Correcting the drift is different.  

And if you do drift in front wheel drive car, more often then not you will spin out.  Usually not a good situation

yup..ebrake....of course steering comes into play..but yea..it is kinda hard to get used to. I go to VERY large parking lots with some old bald tires and let her rip just to get practice. I just started doing it this summer for fun one night with a few other guys.

yup..that has happend to me more often than not so I dont do it when racing or unless in a controlled(well semi-controlled) enviorment. It is fun tho:D
