DTS sound?

i heard that SSX: Tricky has realtime DTS sound so i want to know wat it is exactly?

Also before i asked about the Creative\'s Desktop Theater System 5.1-3500, well it doesn\'t decode DTS. Does this mean i wont get this effect in SSX:Tricky?

5.1 does not =   DTS

5.1 = DD = AC3

and spret you pretty much hit it right on the mark, you won\'t get 5.1 discrete sound whether it be dd or dts on that  Creative system with SSX: Tricky.  The most you\'ll probably get is Dolby Surround, which is still very cool, and has rear sound fx, but not mind-blowing.  If not dolby surround then you\'re stuck with stereo, which is pretty much the standard nowadays, with stereo speakers on many tv sets.

i\'d save your cash and get a kenwood htb-504.  $385 at etronics.com.  it does DD, DTS, DPL II and Circle Surround 5.1.  It also comes with 5 100-watt speakers, and an 100-watt powered sub.

i\'m pretty sure it will sound a little better than the 7 watt speakers and 30 watt sub the creative uses.  But I haven\'t heard it yet so i can\'t be sure..........

The dolby surround (Pro-Logic) will have rears, but they are mono.  That is where the big difference comes in.  (Well besides the digital/analog quality)...

Having stereo in the rear makes a huge difference with movies.

I have the system (dtt 3500) and it is pretty good for the price. The design is very cool, it stands vertical next to my vertical PS2, they are very cool, the same blue and green light. Very sweet.

i searched for "difference between DTS and dolby digital" on yahoo, and the difference seems to be that DTS has a little better sound quality than DD, but not many discs use this.

I am basicaly getting the DTT5.1-3500 for my pc but will be using it with my ps2 cause it says it can hook up easily. From what i been reading it doesnt seem to be much difference to get DTS, unless someone can prove me otherwise that is is worth gettin a DTS sytem.

What i am looking for is a system that can be hooked up easily to the ps2 and my pc (mainly). I am gonna set it up in my room which is pretty small so i guess it doesnt matter if the system is really loud. It would be great if someone can recommend a system for the same price or cheaper (399 canadian), with better things (like DTS).

btw. the DDT 5.1-3500 comes with all the stuff needed to hook it up like: Wireless Remote Control, Optical Cable, Coaxial Cable, Tandem Cable, Power Adapter  and so on

DTS has a higher amount of bandwidth.  So with more bandwidth they are able to produce and reproduce a higher quality sound output then you can get on DD.

A lot of people say you can\'t decern the difference.  Listening to one sample compared directly to another and you might not be able to..  But with the whole sound field that envelops you, the one with the higher sample rate and more bandwidth makes the overall sound more realistic, warmer, larger.  

So in turn DTS is better.  For gaming, probably not, well not at least right now.  But don\'t forget, bigger bandwidth means more data, so that means more data for sound and not for programming.  There is a balance to be made.

DTS also I think encodes each channel seperately.  Whereas the DD is all compressed together and it has to seperate the channels.

Originally DVD discs had seperate discs for DTS and DD.  If you wanted DTS you sacrificed many exrtas because of the extra room the audio took up.

If you can get one that does both.  If it does DTS, it usually does DD.  I bought my stereo the year before DTS became previlant so I don\'t have it.

To be honest though you more than likely won\'t be able to tell the difference.  Audiofiles I think say the DTS sound is brighter.

I did side by side DD/DTS comparisons with Shrek.  In the opening where the Smashmouth song plays, it sounds warmer, fuller and just better overall in DD.  I\'m guessing this has to do with DD\'s bass optimization enhancements which have created a stir in the HT crowd (many argue it\'s because of this that DTS is superior).

However the rest of the movie\'s audio sounds much cleaner with the DTS track.  Especially the rear fx, I could point out things with more discernment, things that I couldn\'t hear nearly as well in DD.

On the best of the best equipment (I\'m talking multi-thousand dollar esoteric wattage hoggers), audiophiles say there is NO discernible difference between DD and DTS.  It really all boils down on if it sounds better on your equipment.  On my system, I prefer DTS.

It has DD/DTS and optical input for your ps2.

The DTS Dolby thing is a big subject on the home theater boards. I have a Denon 3801 that does both as well as DTS ES descrete which adds another speaker in the back. A lot of it depends on the movie or the game. For example IMHO Halo with Dolby Digital 5.1 sounds much better than SSX tricky with DTS. I have heard that the DTS on the PS2 is not the same as DTS on movies or music. THX may know a little more on the subject.
