The speculation has ended. We can now reveal that on Monday, January 28, Nintendo will announce the release date for Gamecube as May 3, 2002 at 249 Euros, which is a staggering £150 - £50 less than PS2 and half the price of Microsoft\'s Xbox console.
Earlier today, we received rock solid information of the details set to be included in the speech by David Gosen, MD of Nintendo Europe, due to be broadcast at 9am, Monday, January 28 on http://www.nintendogamecube-europe.com. In his speech, Gosen is to reveal full launch details including titles, pricing and availability. Crucially, crushing rumours of limited units, Gosen will confirm there will be one million units available across the continent at launch.

Gosen will state that Nintendo expects more than 20 software titles to be available from launch day, which is the largest ever line-up of software ever for a console launch. By the summer there will be almost 50 titles available for Gamecube.

Titles available on launch day include Luigi\'s Mansion, Wave Race, FIFA, Tony Hawk\'s Pro Skater 3, Batman, Crazy Taxi, Burnout, Sonic 2 and Star Wars: Rogue Leader. Shortly after launch, Europe will see Resident Evil, Super Smash Bros. Melee (May 24), and Pikmin (June 14) Allow us a moment to squeal like little girls. Waaaaaaaaaah!

Importantly, Gosen will emphasise that Gamecube is neither aimed at kids, teens, nor adults - it is a machine that is for anyone who enjoys the entertainment yielded by interactive gaming. It is about attitude, not image, he will assert.

Most notable of all is the price: £150 (249 Euros) means you can buy two Gamecubes for the price of an Xbox, and, crucially, it undercuts PS2 by £50. Nintendo may have given Microsoft a two month lead, but with an irresistible price point, expansive launch line-up and confirmed date of May 3, Microsoft and Sony better watch their backs - Gamecube\'s about to rock Europe.

We\'ll bring you a full report from the announcement early on Monday, but in the meantime we suggest you fling open the windows and let the whole world know: Gamecube launches on May 3 for £150! Remember where you heard it first.

So the European prices are as follows:

NGC: 249 Euros = $218.47 USD
Xbox: 479 Euros = $420.27 USD
PS2: 300 Euros = $263.22 USD

Xbox is DOOMED!

Damn that is far too big a price difference.

I hope Nikos from this thread comes back to explain to us how the economy works and why the Xbox will still do very well in Europe. :D  lol.  I\'m interested to hear if his opinion has changed now that we have confirmed prices for the Xbox and NGC.

and there ends the Debate on which console to get next.

hmmmm

a X box at a rip of £300 (40 - 50% more than you americans pay for it at your launch)

or a Gamecube for £150 which leaves more money for BEER :D.

so that will be a Heavily drunken ooseven playing Luigi\'s Mansion on the 3rd of May.

The best feature of the Pal Gamecube is that all Games will be 60hz.

http://nintendo.cloudchaser.com/news/index.php?view=436

Pal owners jump for joy :D

Sony dont give 2 ****s about pal conversions, glad to see Nintendo go the 60hz route. (hopefully microsoft too).
I met him 15 years ago, I was told there was nothing left, no reason, no concious, no understanding and even the most rudamentory sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong, I met this 6 year old child with this blang pale emotionless face and, the blackest eyes, the devils eyes, I spent 8 years trying to reach him, and then another 7 trying to keep him locked up because I realised what was living behind that boys eyes was purly and simply evil.

There is also a rumored PS2 price drop.  If this turns out to be true, then even Nintendo will have problems selling their systems.

Rumours are rampant of an imminent PlayStation 2 price-drop in the run-up to the release of the eagerly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
The rumour, said to be headed for fruition on March 8th, looks increasingly more likely now than ever thanks to the fact that Sony`s rivals Nintendo and Microsoft will be hitting the European market over the next couple of months. The new price point for the Sony machine is estimated to be around the £170 mark.

If this speculation turns out to be true, the PS2 will become more competitive with the £150 GameCube. Meanwhile Microsoft`s £299 Xbox will be forced to sit alone at around double the price of its two competitors.

In light of the fact that you`ll be able to buy a PlayStation 2 and a GameCube plus games to go with them for almost the price of the average Xbox bundle is likely to force Microsoft into a position where they simply have to reduce the price of its new system.

This can only be good news for all gamers, no matter what system they might own. We’ll have more news on console prices as it becomes available.

well even though us European\'s are going to get Shafted by a 40 tp 50% increase in launch price when compaired to the US and Japanese launches

M$$$$$ have went on record and said it due to the logistical costs of establishing themself in Europe, and that this Price would remain no matter what for the un for-see-able future.

hmm maybe i should call them M£\'s insted due to this launch price hike of almot 50%.

and before someone flames me and says thats what the PS2 was price at, then i have to say this.

at least every country payed in same repective of geographical location with the launch of the PS2.

a UK PS2 cost the same as a US ps2 and so on ......
