Development of Sony and a next-generation game machine (Kyodo News)
It turns out on the 5th that Sony started development of the next-generation game machine which replaces "Playstation (PS) 2" of the home video game machine first place. It is premised on the high-speed Internet access by the optical fiber, and service is begun as soon as environment, such as the spread of development and optical fiber networks, will be ready around 2005 in MPU (micro processing unit) of a basic semiconductor.

Another rumour... only one more. I don\'t care about this news.

Better custom maps in Timesplitters 2...  that would be a good reason.

...and for that you need a HD? I don\'t know what custom maps you\'re talking about, but TS2 has not been released yet, so how would you know what "better" is?

The only reason I asked pstwo to why he wants PS3 to have a HD built in, is because it\'s one big gimmick. There are advantages, but most of them will probably not be used, and having a HD built in will also bring up the cost. You can do quite a lot of things without a HD through smart programming. And TS one had overall bad memory management (lack of textures, no dynamic loading etc) - so I expect TS2 to be much better and have bigger levels with less loading times.

Yeah, it\'s just one big gimmick that\'s integral to the PS3\'s success.  How else are you supposed to download all  of those Sony movies to your all in one PS3?

The advantages of a HDD are endless.  My games load faster, games like Halo have huge levels, warehouse-like storage (I haven\'t dented my 50,000+ blocks of game save), custom soundtracks, etc, etc.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.
