is it in waranty? if it is call them up and they have to fix it for free except the S&H (Shipping and Handling), if not you have to pay for them to fix it.

Um warranty doesn\'t always gurantee anything, Sony tried to **** me over.  Your best bet is to get a dvd lens cleaner.

This has probably been posted before, but I\'ll post it again because I know a lot of people are having problems such as these after a year or two of using the ps2.  My JDM ps2 had read disc errors, especially on dvds, and I too thought that it was maybe the motor or the lens burning out.  It turns out that after time, the power going to the dvd lens starts to drop. (this is a common thing in electronic appliances where over time capacitators and resistors stop working as efficiently as originally designed)  There are two adjustors behind the lens, one for the cd laser and the other for the dvd laser.  By adjusting these, you can adjust the voltage going to the lens.  Here\'s a link to a step by step walkthrough on fixing your ps2, however if your warranty is still in effect, I would suggest you mail it to Sony, and if not, I would suggest this to people who\'ve had some experience taking apart electronic devices.  Good luck.

That happened to me before.  My PS2 cut out on me with the "Disc read error".  I was about to send it to sony when I got a system lens cleaner from officemax.  Now my PS2 work like the first day I got it.

Yeah I had the same problem. But if you do stand it vertical it will work fine. No problems. The PS2 was intentionally meant to be vertical.
