New Spider-Man cartoon coming to MTV

I read this in my paper this morning:

"SPIDEY CARTOON SWINGS TO MTV

Spider-Man has scaled the box-office heights. Now the web-slinger is headed for MTV.

The cable network will debut the newest version of the Marvel Comics hero as an animated series next winter.

The show will feature Doogie Howser star Neil Patrick Harris as the voice of Spider-Man and his alter ego, Peter Parker.

But in this version of the Spidey saga, instead of being a newspaper photographer, Parker will be a Web designer (get it- WEB designer?) for a newspapers internet site. Singer Lisa Loeb will be the voice of Mary Jane Watson, Parker\'s girlfriend. Ian Ziering (Beverly Hills, 90210) will voice Harry Osborn, Parker\'s friend and son of Norman Osborn, the original Green Goblin. "



Sounds kinda intresting. I never got to see the original cartoon or shows, but I did watch the series on Fox, before it was canceled. That series was great at first, but then they ruined storylines and I lost intrest. Being on MTV, who wants to bet that they ruin the show with stupid teen issues and music?

I remember when MTV first had Liquid Television with its neat and disturbing shorts such as Honey Bunny and Aeon Flux, it was a great compilation of twisted animation.  THe only other comic book adaptation took place on MTV\'s Oddities which showed The Maxx.  Now the Maxx, by Sam Kieth was fairly well adapted.  The art was practically ripped straight from the comic books along with frames and panels of animation.  It was one of the best twisted and dark cartoons ever and they got away with so much on MTV, but it aired really late at night so I can imagine why.

As for Spiderman, I\'m not sure.  Daria is a fairly good series and the only one worth watching on American cable Networks (aside from Samurai Jack, which is more of a premium cartoon then anything else. )  If they do Spiderman on MTV, I\'m pretty sure they\'ll stay on track with the general ideology of the comics, but I imagine a bastardization is afoot, much like Batman Beyond, which is overrated BS in my opinion.  I much more prefer the Adventures of Batman and Robin on the WB with the grey and black Batman and Tim Drake as a young Robin and D|ck Grayson as Nightwing.

Yah, I love my comic book heroes just like I love my animation.

i hope spiderman isnt on mtv... i really dont like mtv anymore!!!!!

I agree about that Batman comment. Batman Beyond is a little... out there... and the other show is more in touch with Batman\'s roots.
