Xbox drops price in the USA.. and Europe AGAIN?

Well, its the last ditch effort to help the xbox, as Microsoft chooses to lose over 150 dollars per console in the USA, more then the ps2 at launch (which was 100 as I recal)

I thought companies were susposed to make money on the consoles (or lose less) and not lose more.. lol

Then, the big shocking news, Microsoft to lower the price in europe again?
The NGC did very well, better then MS expected.. so they are expected to drop the price again..
If this news is true, all consumer confidence in the xbox would be shot over there.

This sure is entertainly to watch MS

1.) Run in Panic
2.) and loose lots of cash (in stocks too!)

they would\'ve lowered it more, but then they would\'ve been "price dumping" or whatever the hell you called it and then whiny *****es like you would have something else to whine about.

This will only be positive for MS. Nintendo needs to watch out everywhere now. PS2 (a monster) and XBox (selling similarly at 100 bucks more) are now the same price as it. If Nintendo doesn\'t counteract (which, in your double-standard bizarro world, will not be a last ditch effort) then they will get left in the dust. MS will be cheaper or the same price in every terroritory than GC it seems. WIth more games and features to boot.

I\'m not sure how Nintendo will fare at this price point for the next few months. But if they manage to hold out I think they ca more than hold their ground through the Fall/Christmas period on the strength of their games. They\'ve got some phenomenal big name stuff comming out, and according to a recent MSNBC article, the console has been selling better than X-Box and PS2 in the months following the REbirth launch.

That Steve Kent guy also mentioned that he was extremely impressed with Metroid: Prime, going so far as to call it the possible Goldeneye of the NGC.

As for the X-Box, the European price drop might indeed happen considering how successful the GC launch was. Sales are really slow in the territory, even after the first price drop. In my mind X-Box still seems to have some dim hope of competing with Sony in this generation. They should just concentrate on games, and do their own thing. Because in all honesty the console will probably continue to sell at about the same rate as before (after the initial sale spike caused by cheap bastards suddently running out to get the console). The X-Box is for the moment a niche console and, until it gets some overhyped heavy hitter on its games stable, it will remain so.

Yeah i can just see it now, comstomer walkes in to a shop see the xbox for 150 pounds, "no i am not buying that, they have droped the price twice"
Yeah good one, if they drop the price agian then they are going to move consoles alot easier, which means the more consoles they have out there the more money they can make on the software, microsoft couldn\'t careless how they sell the consoles as long as they do, i mean the ps1 only took off after a couple of price drops, and i could see the same thing happening with the xbox.
Not that i really care at the mo because i haven\'t played my PS2 or Xbox in months.

Oh.. so they haven\'t announced anything yet. This is all speculation based on current trends. Do us a favor Chrono and look for NEWS to post rather than speculation. At least, if you\'re going to bash MS over it, at least let them DO it first.

Anyhow, if this speculation is true then I wonder if MS\'s next step is to offer the Xbox for free to anyone who signs onto their gaming service for a period of two years.......

Boy, you sure do have a lot of faith in the consumer. But let me assure you, they\'re not that stupid as you make them to be, and every now and then, a consumer will wonder why the price has been dropped twice and at what rate. Obviously, a company who drops their price two times in one month can\'t sell their product. And this is a reason to wait with a purchase. And it\'s big news that Xbox isn\'t selling good - another reason to wait of buying one.

I doubt that this will only be postive for MS. Obviously, they are being forced to drop the price and by doing so, they will be making a much bigger loss. And the more loss their making now, the longer it will take for them to recover and gain a profit - and for that, the software will have to sell VERY good. IMO, I don\'t see the games that will be big sellers very soon (at least here in Europe), so no, I don\'t see this positive. They obviously have no choice if they want to stay in business - and perhaps they are doing the one last thing that might help them make this console a worldwide success.
