newbie questions!
« on: June 19, 2002, 07:36:11 AM »
hello!

having just started my new job and all that kind of jazz, i have decided to invest my money wisely and not be at all frivolous.

so obviously my first purchase is gonna be a games console ;)

basically i wanted to know:

1) why should i buy a playstation2? (and no answers of \'u just should\' please. i mean, why is it better than x-box?

2) read on some sites that there are problems with the dvdplayer. seeing as this was one of the reasons i was plumping for the ps2, i want to know what the problems actually are (if any) and whether i would actually be able to tell the differnece in picture quality.  seeing some of the threads on here as well, there seem to be a lot of problems with reading the discs and stuff - does this happen a lot, and is it more of hindrnace rahter than an out and out problem....?

3) what games should i get.

having not had a games console since my trusty megadrive packed in (i\'ve been a student and coudltn justify the expense) am looking forward to any future purchase.

hope u can help cheers!

1.  buy it cause it has the most amount of A+ games

2. unless you have an HD TV, yer not going to notice much of a difference

3.  too many to list.   absolute must haves = GT3, FFX, TMB, DMC, MGS2, and GTA3

If you want the system mainly for the DVD player, you should get the PS2. Soon, it will have P-Scan and you don\'t need to buy a remote just to use the DVD player. *cough* XBOX *cough*

Good games for PS2..?

- Final Fantasy X
- Metal Gear Solid 2
- Twisted Metal Black
- Grand Theft Auto 3
- Gran Turismo 3
- Medal of Honor: Frontline
- Jak and Daxter
- Devil May Cry
- Virtua Fighter 4

These are just some of the games that come to mind.

Niether console is "better" than the other...each have their advantages and disadvatages for a number of reasons.  As far as graphical quality goes, Xbox can produce some really good looking games.  Nothing so far, if ever, that completely burns PS2.

What you need to take a good hard look at are the games available.  PS2 obviously has a large selection at this time and continues to grow and suit just about any gaming taste.

I\'m sure someone here would be willing to give you some impressions of the top tier games available...

Xbox has a small library of games (as do all consoles their first year) but has a few worth mentioning...Halo, Munch, Project Gotham, Jet Set Radio Future, Rallisport, Dead or Alive 3...more note worthy titles should be available this fall/winter.

While I\'ve only had mine for a few months, I\'ve never encountered a problem.  I think it was just with the first models out...

What genres do you like?(Sports, Racing, Adventure, Platform, RPG, Fighting, etc)  Anyway, here\'s a small list of some good games:

Jak & Daxter
Devil May Cry
Gran Turismo 3
Metal Gear Solid 2
Grand Theft Auto 3
Final Fantasy X
ICO
Twisted Metal Black
Virtua Fighter 4

You could also look into some PSX games as well...
