Some new details about RE Online

In an interview in Playstation Magazine, Yoshihiro Sudo revealed some more details about Resident Evil Online:
First of all the game will only allow up to 4 players per game, which is less than I had originally thought. I thought I remembered hearing 8 per game, but this confirms it otherwise.

56k modem or better will work with the game, and the PS2 hard drive will be supported. That means there is no need to purchase a separate hard drive.

In the North American version, they are considering adding keyboard chat or voice chat to the available chat options.

You\'ll be able to play through some of the areas of previous RE games, most specifically RE 2 and RE 3. Also, many of the old enemies will make an appearance (Nemesis perhaps?).

This wasn\'t in the interview, however I heard rumblings that there will be a monthly fee of anywhere from $4 to $9 to play Resident Evil Online. This however is NOT CONFIRMED.

More information as it happens. I\'d like to thank ColdSystem for sharing this article with me.

And a little bit more from that interview:

Quote
The game takes place sometime between RE1 and RE3. Due to the biological disaster unleashed by Umbrella, Raccoon City has been infected and many people have been zombified. In this game you will play as one of the survivors, who has started to think of ways to stop the disaster from spreading. This includes the possibility of launching a missile at the town to destroy it and the zombies that lie within.

You play as one of eight survivors. Not only will each individual character have his or her own private story/drama to tell, the story will unfold and split off in multiple directions via NPC character interaction, as well as how the characters relate with other team members.

……

One of the main ideas of the game is escaping the city before it is destroyed (the city will be bombed). However, in each scenario, each and every character’s own personal stories will be revealed. Why did the city become this way? Why did that particular character come to Raccoon City? However, some mysteries/puzzles won’t be solved by just beating the game. How each character interprets the story will change depending on how you beat the game.

Why then REonline? Split screen mode would be enough.

I didn\'t know that PS2 has an internal HD.

Yes, a nice way to say that European ver will be as bad as they use to be.

I\'ve heard this before... it seems that Capcom will do a remix instead of making a couple of new backgrounds.

C ya, REO.

Even it is not official info, I knew something like this would happen. Capcom only thinks in the money, not in new games.

I\'m a little disappointed about the 4 player limit too, especially since there will be 8 characters in the game, and the other 4 will be NPCs that are working with you. My guess is that it\'s to have better play for 56k players. *shrugs shoulders*

That would be a little distracting if 4 different characters are having their own cut-scenes all at the same time, among other possible events.

You don\'t have to buy a HDD, but if you do get one, it\'s supported.
