It just locks and wont open, it started today, the orange light just stays there and it wont open, it also doesn\'t show up with the other CD-ROM drive in my comp. and it slows the boot up by about 1 min

Does you bios detect it?

Nevermind,
check to see if there is a little hole on the front of your drive. that hole is the manual open. straighten out a paper clip and shove it in there gently, staying in the centre. The tray should pop out just enough to pull it out and take out your cd.

ALSO

make sure the software yer running isnt locking it

directCD will take over sometimes

For some reason it\'s working, I did nothing and on about the 10 attempt it worked, strange.

Maybe the cd you had in the drive is getting worn out or scratched.

another thing, make sure no software was accessing the drive

it wont eject if something is using it

I have almost the same problem on my comp. It also begins failing to find my DVD drive while booting. The ratio is about 70% failed & 30% success. I guess it`s something with the IDE controller...

OR, Your IDE ribbon is dieing. That could explain why it\'s workin on and off etc.

It hardly ever works now and at the momment it is stuck open with the orange light on, I should have a mate coming tomorrow to take a look at it.
