Sonic Team on PS2
In the newest issue of Japanese gaming magazine, Dorimaga, Yuji Naka, producer/director at Sega-subsidiary Sonic Team, revealed that he and his crew are working on a new game for the Playstation 2. No details regarding whether it would be an original work or a new installment in a previous series, but more details may be available at this year\'s Tokyo Game Show, which begins on the 22nd of September.

Previously, Sonic Team had been a GameCube-only developer, and their software always went on to sell very well. Naka gave no reason for the company\'s sudden desire to develop for PS2, but we\'ll keep you updated should we learn something.

On the one hand, I\'m surprised.. Sonic Team and Mr. Naka in particular have always been very vocal about their dislike for the PS2 as a gaming platform and stated repeatedly that they would not develop games for it.

On the other.. I\'m not. They\'ve also said that they didn\'t care for the Xbox.. and that they were trying to concentrate only on one hardware platform this generation to maximise their development efforts. "If you like Sonic Team\'s games - buy a GameCube. That\'ll be the ONLY place you find them." - a non-verbatium quote from Naka. But, in light of all that they\'re still making PSO v.2 for the Xbox... so their hardline stance as a Nintnedo developer only is already broken.

Who knows.. maybe they jus finally learned how to program the damned thing? I wanna hear more on what this game is before I make any speculation.

I wonder if they\'re making a sequel to Nights...I seem to be one of the few people that enjoyed it on Saturn:D

Naw, I think if Sega does a NiGHTS game, it\'d go for the GameCube. It just seems to fit the platform better. While I think a unique and accredited game like NiGHTS would do well on the NGC, I jus see it being drowned out by ArmyMen and Britteny Spears games on the PS2. It\'s probably a port or an enhancement of a current game. The only two games (non-original) that I can see Sonic Team working on for the PS2 is a Sonic Side-Game or a port of PSO.

Eh, until I know what game they\'re making I\'m jus gonna pretend like this news dosen\'t exist.

I wouldn\'t mind Night but I long for a true 128 bit 2D Sonic Sequel.

Frankly, SEGA doesn\'t seems to know to code the PS2 very well when other developers already improved.

VF4 - looks great by all means but the jaggies is terrible. T4 looks way much sharper even in normal non progrresie scan mode.

SEGA Sport Tennis - if u still have your DC, I suggest you get the DC version. Again the jaggies and lightning in this game is terrible.

Maybe that\'s why they stay away from the PS2 most of the time. They just sucked at it.

Sega should be shot for porting Nights over to the GBA and not delivering a true sequel.
That\'s all I have to say about this matter.

Thank you,

SEGA should be shot for being such lousy developers.

I\'m pretty convinced by now the reason they concentrate more on the X-BOX is(other than business strategy) is that they just cannot understand the PS2.

Their latest game, SEGA Slam Soccer has got very bad rating for the graphics again from most review.

And people, SEGA Slam Soccer, Sport Tennis etc etc are not very demanding games. It doesn\'t have a huge playground, there isn\'t tons of characters, there\'s no massive outdoor environment etc etc....yet it can suck so bad. Games like J&D, GT3, Mark of Kri, BD: A (just to name a few) have shown that great graphics can be done in more extreme environment. Yet after 2/3 years, they\'re still haven\'t progress beyond gen one of PS2 graphics.

I sure hope Shinobi doesn\'t turn out to be another jagged alliance with wrong lightsourcing.

And believe me, you\'ll never see PDO or SEGA GT 2002 on the PS2...even if they wanted to coz they\'re simply a bunch of lousy developers who only knows Direct X.
