Need Help using Japanese PlayStation2 console in Europe
« on: October 02, 2002, 01:46:07 AM »
I was wondering if anyone else has tried this. I went to Japan and bought a limited edition "Ocean Blue" PlayStation2 console and tried to hook it up to my TV over here and all the games come up black&white??! Does anyone know what\'s going on? I called Sony but they don\'t know what\'s going on either. They told me that there might be a conflict between PAL and NTSC formats and that I should go out and buy a new NTSC format TV. I don\'t want to spend over $500 just to test if what they are suggesting is true. Any help will be appreciated!!!!

Buy a proper ps2 scart lead, the lead that comes with the ps2 doesn\'t support NTSC or 60hz display on a PAL TV.

How old is your TV? It\'s possible that your TV does not support NTSC.

U can check this in the TV\'s menu function and try to set it to NTSC(if it\'s available).

If its comming out b&w it means your TV can\'t run NTSC.

You will need a TV that supports 60hz games and NTSC colour scale.

AFIK techicaly your right.. but i believe that the original lead displays Pal 60hz you\'ll need a \'proper RGB scart lead\'
to allow your PS2 to display a NTSC 60hz signal in full colour. also the year/make of television you have depends on
wether the game will play in colour or b/w. If you have a proper scart lead and you still get a b/w picture,
it\'s time for a new TV my friend
