WRC II Extreme Video...
« on: October 04, 2002, 03:50:23 AM »
As Evolution fine tunes its roaring new mechanical beast, get the story so far with a behind the scenes video on the making of WRC II Extreme.

Last year WRC not only reached number one across Europe, but it also breached the top five in Japan - an almost unprecedented achievement for a rally game. While that\'s a pretty respectable debut, Evolution Studios has seen no reason to rest on its laurels. With a year to re-work, improve and fine-tune the WRC engine, the results in WRC II Extreme are looking spectacular. Evolution\'s CEO Martin Kenwright has previously compared last year\'s offering to a shakedown, with WRC II Extreme being the main event. Now, the latest behind-the-scenes video shows that he\'s not just talking a good game.

The five minute video mixes real WRC action with in-game footage (it\'s getting pretty hard to tell the difference these days), and gives you a small insight into the insane amount of detail that goes into bringing one of the world\'s most exciting motorsport events to life. Discover the lengths that Audio Producer Jerry Ibbotson went to in order to ensure accurate sound effects for every featured vehicle, get WRC World Champion co-driver Robert Reid\'s take on the game and hear Martin Kenwright wax lyrical about the game\'s 3-4 mile viewing distance. If you\'re the type that relishes a challenge, listen carefully for details on the \'frighteningly realistic\' Expert mode, which uses real physics data from all of the teams to create an unforgiving but unerringly realistic driving experience.

Looking briliant!!, Listen to the driving physics model info.. sounds excelent. 3 physics models whoohoo!!.

The latest PSW has footage of this game and IMO it looks better than Colin Mcrae 3.

The graphics of the car models, and especially the gravel on the road look superb.

Yeah, i just got the DVD a couple of days ago, and i agree that it does look better than cmr3.

Anyone who has this dvd check out the multi-angle cmr3 footage and make sure to play it in the outside replay view
(you have to use the angle option on the dvd player menu)
at about 2-3 minutes into the replay the poor physics model really shows it\'s ugly head.
when the car steers left to go around say a 3 left the car tuns left but there doesn\'t seem to be any grip. as soon as you
flick the car out of the slide using oposite(sp?) steering lock the car drags to the left..
believe me i\'ve watched rallies for the last 10 years and also started to attended Rally GB since 1998
WRC\'s just dont act like that. Codemasters are simply giving you the physics model of CMR1 they dont want to alter
that winning formula. but i believe that CMR1 created a lot more interest in the WRC scene and i also believe that
people have learnt a lot by watching Rallys on TV and probably by attending some.
People learn and evolve.. maybee they see the diferences in handling in real life than in a game.
Botom line.. i think that the handling should have evolved along with the game.. Codemasters simply havn\'t
allowed for this in fear of loosing the franchise\'s winning formula.
Looks to me like WRC II has allready decided that fate.
by no means am i implying that CMR3 wil not sell, couldn\'t be further from the truth. i believe that it will
sell more than the previous 2 games but will those people be happy with their purchase? esp. with WRC II,
"The official WRC game" comming out?
People like \'Official Licences\' if they didn\'t EA would be dead.

WRC II Extreme seems a much better bet when it comes to physics.. there\'s 3 modes of physics

Easy mode = WRC1 Physics model
Normal mode = Hybrid Of WRC1 Physics and WRC II Hard mode Physics
Hard mode = Physics that they made for Prodrive that was supposed to be in WRC1 but later
dropped due to mardy arse\'s at E3 last year. they complained about hard handling etc..
(i expect that this has been tweaked a little from previous model)

I also hope that they make the difficulty tougher as the first game held no challenge except for the English stages.

Oh BTW, that film clip brings back some memories.. esp since it was the first time i heard that music it on the
way down to Cardiff for SS2 (Brechfa 1) last year (2001 Rally GB) . i think it was by Underworld. top tune :0)

Brechfa info.. = http://www.rallygb.co.uk/stages/stage2.htm

i also attended SS10 (Halfway) really nice views and a very good vantage point.. could view the cars for about 3 miles.

Believe me.. if any of you are considering attending Rally GB 2002 then this is the site that you need...

It has everything for you to be prepared for the journey and stages.

Hmm, I don\'t think you\'ve gotten the point mate. Who cares if CMR isn\'t the most realistic. The bottom line is, is it fun to play? And I say hell yes it is, a lot more than WRC ever was. That\'s why I\'m getting CMR3 and not WRC2 no matter how much more realisitic WRC2 is.

Each to their own buddy. i prefer simulation, that\'s probably why i\'m leaning more to WRC II

I\'m looking forward to WRC2 Extreme after seeing the mess that is CMR3 on PSW dvd that game looks terrible, looks like CMR2 running on the PS2 with the texture thingy turned on. And its not that good according to people who have played the demo so it\'s WRC 2 Extreme all the way for me.
