Yes, it\'s one of the scariest movies I\'ve seen.

So....what\'s the connection between the TV girl and the boy?

The couple who owned the horse farm had tried many times to have a baby but could not. So they adopted. But what is it about the girl that made her so evil? Apparently the girl was adopted from a woman who\'d had several miscarriages.

When the couple brought her back to the island, a lot of bad things began to happen there. Heck, the horses ran into the ocean rather than be near the little girl. So they send the girl to the mental hospital, right? Coz the mother was having nightmares because of the little girl. Okay. But hwhy bring back the little girl? Did the parents bring her back just to get rid of her? Why not just leave her in the mental hospital?

The cottage was built on top of the well where the girl was killed. But the well was on the mainland, not the island. Shortly after, the mom commits suicide. Since the girl\'s spirit was still alive....it was able to manifest its nightmare on to a tape in the cottage. So whoever viewed her "message" would die in 7 days. Well...for the viewer to save one\'s self, you just have to make a copy? Or do you have to let someone else view the copy?

Now finally, when Naomi Watts (the blond) saw her ex-boyfriend was killed by the girl, why did she not warn his current girlfriend about his corpse?

That is one of the creepiest movies I\'d ever seen.

There was some fuzziness there that did not make sense to me.

Mainly if the girl is already dead, what difference does it make where her bones are?  Also I\'m with you, G-man, making a copy of the tape does not seem significant to me.

Just saw it, that was some scary shit.  I liked how the movie started out, no credits, just straight to the movie.. Credits all at the end. :)

I really didn\'t think about it too much, but you pointed out a lot of things they were ????????.

I just saw it, and although I liked many things about it, I think the casting was poor.  It would have been much more effective with better actors, not just people chosen because they look good.

Regarding your post, I think you\'re confused about a few points gman.

It\'s not explained where the girl actually came from.  The doctor on the island only assumed she was adopted, but maybe she wasn\'t.  I think it\'s possible the mother was infected with some evil (ala The Exorcist) and gave birth while they were off the island.  The father said "She was never SUPPOSED to have a child!"  I don\'t think he would have said that if they had adopted.  BTW, the mother (the horsebreeder) was the one with the miscarriages, not the person you guessed was the "other" birthmother of the girl.

Perhaps the girl was released from the hospital because they couldn\'t find anything wrong with her (except sleeplessness).  Instead of bringing her back to the island, they take her to another stables on the mainland, where the well was.  The mother, knowing what the girl really is, kills her.

The Rachel character (Naomi Watts) didn\'t save herself just by making the one copy of the tape.  She was only spared because the girl/evil spirit thought she could use Rachel to distribute her message and kill more innocent people.  The movie ends with Rachel and Aidan at an editing bay dubbing more tapes to save themselves.  I think it\'s quite possible that they are wasting their time, and they\'ll be killed soon also.  I love that unsettling ending.

Oh, I thought that because there were horses in the background near the well, it was assumed that they were supposed to be back on the island..

Ending probably has something to do with a sequel? I was looking up on the movie, and I came upon sites about the Japanese version titled Ringlu, and it supposedly has a sequel..

It definitely had some flavour of the Sixth Sense, but to answer some of those points:

1) I think that the connection between the girl and the boy is this... the girl herself was something supernatural, something evil.  She could sense and manipulate her physical environment (the photos/picturs she made in the hospital, the tv stuff, the burnt wall in her room).  She never slept, and as such, I think part of her lived on after death.  The boy has some small supernatural powers, in that he can hear her more clearly than others (like 6th sense).

2) They don\'t need to explain where the girl came from, just that her adoptive mother couldn\'t handle her influence.  The girl drove her mother insane with whatever powers she had, and horses killed themselves to avoid her.  Eventually, the mother got to the point where she was insane enough to just kill her daughter, because she thought she was evil.

3) Pure speculation:  In the hospital the girl asks for her mother... but doesn\'t use a name.  Perhaps she was stolen or kidnapped by the couple, and uses her abilities for evil because she is angry over that.

4) The main character does save herself by making a copy.  What the father had said before he died made sense.  The girl doesn\'t mind killing, but her goal isn\'t to kill everyone, but rather to have everyone see her suffering.  So if you watch the tape, you make a copy, and in that way, eventually, everyone will see her suffering.

5) What a totally awesome movie.  It\'s rare these days that hollywood comes up with a totally new script that really floors me.

Well....still, not all the questions are feasable. The girl wants everyone to know she was abused despite her being evil. So she wants the world to know? I don\'t think she\'s gonna get much sympathy. :D

Anyway...the Japanese "Ring-gu" was a trilogy. Maybe the next two movies will have all the answers.

The part that made me get all creeped out was the first victim....when her mother opened the closet. Dayum! The girl looked like she was literally scared to death....and then electricuted! Sorta like Samara\'s father. :) The next creepiest part was when Samara was out of the TV...she takes a step forward....and the reappears right in front of the guy! HOLY!
