Bought Fifa Football 2003 as well as PES2 last week...
« on: October 29, 2002, 03:19:12 AM »
Here\'s my opinion on Fifa Football 2003 just so you don\'t all get caught up in PES2 as I have...lol

The gamplay isn\'t bad but the two different modes Arcade and Simulation are great as they offer different types of play.

Arcade is more like the Virtua Striker and past Fifa games, which is good for newbies but simulation is better for veteran fifa players such as myself, as they players now act a lot better, tackle more, and the opposition now put more pressure on you building up the pressure and upping the ante a little...

The graphics are mindblowing as the players look exactly like their counterparts which David Beckham wearing his current blond barnet and Freddie Ljungberg sporting the punk mohican with red streaks...
You can choose the kit you want to wear before the game which are all up to date with all the detail.
Then the stadiums are up next and although a lot are left out...the bigger stadia such as The Bernabeu and Old Trafford are in with authentic chants, flags and exact detail.
I was blown away by the detail as they have worked hard on the look making sure it\'s as close to the beautiful game as they can...

It is also up to date with Robbie Keane wearing the White of Tottenham Hotspur and Ronaldo strike partnering Raul at his new club Real Madrid.

The Gameplay isn\'t bad, it isn\'t as good as PES2, as they have taken out the skill moves, but on the harder difficulty you really have to work hard and pull off some beautiful passes to split the defences apart.
The Free Kick system is very impressive as you now choose where the ball will go with the target on goal, where to kick the ball, as you can add ballspin with a target on a little ball in the bottom left hand corner...
The players act like they do in real life with players like Michael Owen making skillful runs at the defence, David Beckham often losing the ball but making little runs out wide on the right, and Teddy Sheringham being the playmaker for Robbie Keane...

The big dissapointment is that Edit Mode and Training have been sacrificed in favour of The Club Championship Mode where you choose from a handful of top European teams and go into a super league where the top 8 go thru to a tournament where you play two legs in each game.
It\'s great as when you go to an away ground you have to silence the home crowd and as you start scoring, your fans outsing the home fans unless you\'re winning at home as they will anyway.

Overall, I\'d say if you\'re not sure, Id definetly rent this as it IS worth a look. Don\'t just judge it against Pro Evolution Soccer 2.
It\'s pretty good but not revolutionary like the PES series is every year...

My mark would be 7/10

Thanks for reading...what do you all think now after reading this?
:D
