How easy is the network adapter?

How easy is it to intall the network adapter and get it up and running?  Does the adapter include the set-up cd the Sony site talks about?  Is it really as easy as plugging it all in and going through the set-up cd?  Do you need to go through your ISP for information/help?  Thanks for any input!

Setting up the NA is real, real easy. Even if you have no idea
of what type of settings you use on your modem/broadband
connection, it has suggestions like: If you don\'t know, use
DHCP...etc.

It comes with the setup CD, but most online games (SOCOM,
Madden, etc.) also have the online setup built in.

You probably won\'t need to call your ISP for help/info, unless
you\'re completely clueless. Chances are you can guess at the
info you need and it will work (i.e. just go with the defaults),
unless you\'re using some bizarre network setup. Took me a
total of about 5 mins to do, and 4 of those minutes were
putting in my name/info...stupid virtual keyboards.

Have you ever played Madden on it?  If you wanted to play a specific person in another state, is that easy to do?  If you just want to play somebody else (instead of the computer), I assume you can just go out and join a game with somebody else waiting?

Setting up your modem on the PS2 is a snap.. all you REALLY need is your UserName, Password, and ISP\'s number. Anyone can do it, unless like john said, your ISP is wacky. I don\'t think you can use AOL either.. not sure.. but since it needs proprietary software installed to connect it won\'t be able to on PS2 since there is no AOL software for it AFAIK. Chances are if you\'re not using AOL then you\'re intelligent enough to hook it up without breaking a sweat.

Now TWEAKING your modem for increased preformance.. that\'s when it starts getting a little tricky. You\'ll need detailed info like your Primary and Secondary DNS numbers from your ISP as well as alot of patience and at least a rudimentary knowladge of what all those numbers and letters mean in a Modem Init string do. I\'m using ATs11=50s10=50s10=25 for my Dreamcast and it\'s given me a noticable preformance boost over the default AT&F0. You won\'t be able to use that with the PS2 NA tho, since Modem init strings often change depending on the manufactruer and part number. Check the web if you\'re feeling particularly abitious.. I\'m sure other people have created and posted init strings there for you to use. Just remember to write down your default modem init string if there isn\'t an option to let you reset it back to default.

Head into the Madden forum for more info on that stuff, but here\'s
quick answers:
You can\'t really play against "states" - it\'s broken up into East,
West, etc.
If you want to play a random foe, there are always people on it,
and always people willing to play (some are cheaters, though).

As far as tweaking, I don\'t know what tweaks you can do to the
Sony NA. Especially with broadband...there probably will be some,
but it seems like broadband is about as quick as it gets. The specific
game servers (i.e. SOCOM) tend to be problematic, not the NA
itself...

If you want to play a friend from another state it\'s easy..as long as you know his madden username.  You can also search for people by name, so you don\'t have to look through the 50+ rooms looking for them.
