Galerians sequel for PS2

I\'m not at all familiar with Galerians from the PSX, but I found an article here about a sequel that sounds intriguing. The screenshots are ok, IMO, but the gameplay and story interest me.

What I\'m wondering is whether or not the first game is worth playing or not. From the sound of the sequel, I\'m interested in getting a copy of the original, but I\'d like some opinions if anyone here has played it.
