Just got the Getaway demo
« on: November 16, 2002, 11:51:24 AM »
Well let\'s just get it into the open shall we, the rumors about bad framerate...VERY TRUE. Animation was bad.

Now the game it self was actually very nice though, after playing GTA all the time and trying the Getaway you\'ll really feel the difference, the Getaway is just much much more realistic.

Aaron complained about the controls being horrible but they weren\'t that horrible, it\'s just alot different from what one\'s used to (as in GTA), it\'s a lot like a blend of GTA along with MGS. What I really liked though was that you steered the car with both sticks, one\'s for steering and the right one is accelerate and brake, it was a lot of fun driving like a madman.

It was also great that when you get shot you really feel that you just got shot, he stumbles around and holds his belly, nice touch.

The story seems nicely brutal, wife killed and kid kidnapped.

But the demo was waayyy too short, I finished it in no time.

All in all it was a lot better that I was expecting because of all the negative things I\'ve been hearing.

Hmm, about the framerate issue.... did the demo in any way
indicate what build it was ? Any note like ; \'work in progress\',
\'early demo\' or anything like that ? I just ask becuz in several
interviews the producers keep insisting the final build will
feature 60 fps

edit > well, from what you say I figure  that ain\'t the final build.
And if there\'s only some slow down in cutscenes I can live with that.

well demo only stated that it doesn\'t reflect the final games quality or something like that, but they\'ll have to do a awful lot of fixing because it was quite noticable especially in the cut scenes, the game it self wasn\'t as bad though

that\'s strange... I think there are a different builds around, as someone posted their impressions on the demo and stated that the game had absolutely no slowdown.. hmm..

Well, Ratchet and Clank did have framerate problems in the demo aswell and the game itself plays like a dream now.. so, here\'s hoping that the end build will have a constant 60 fps framerate.

Yeah I had a thread a while back when I got the demo from Ted Baker.  I noticed no slowdown whatsoever except for once in very heavy traffic, so for me everything seems fine!!!!

sounds like something that only a PS2 Zelot would say....

hehe...

For the record, the impressions I\'m refering to come from the beyond3d forum from a guy who is not a PS2 fanatic or in any way related to over 50% of the members on these forums here. Not to say that this guy is right here, but the developers themselves said that the game will run at the above mentioned framerate when all is done. The Ratchet & Clank demo had framerate problems too and now runs at a constant framerate - at this point, I really have no reason not to believe those hands-on impressions from someone and the claims of the developers. This has nothing to do with blind bias.
