Or rather, the games made using it have.
January 10, 2003 - Games developed using Criterion Studios\' RenderWare platform have collectively grossed $2 billion in revenue at retail, Criterion announced today. The more than 130 SKUs (a SKU is a single software product, so a game released for three platforms is three SKUs) developed with RenderWare include Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, World Soccer Winning Eleven 6, and many other highly successful titles.
Criterion CEO David Lau-Kee said, "The uptake of RenderWare as a critical component within the game development process has been increasing rapidly over the past year. Safe-guarding the efficient, timely delivery of games in an increasingly competitive environment is a key consideration for the publisher community, and the RenderWare brand is seen by our customers as a guarantee of this happening. We are delighted to be able to help the industry deliver great games and to drive revenues."
More than 300 SKUs are currently in production using RenderWare, making it by far the most successful middleware platform on the market -- indeed, it is perhaps the only significant surviving middleware package for consoles.
