CNN ordered out of Baghdad
« on: March 21, 2003, 10:44:34 AM »
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq (news - web sites) ordered Cable News Network (CNN), the U.S. television news channel, to leave Iraq on Friday and accused it of being a propaganda machine.

CNN, on air, said it was "sad to learn" that its four-strong team in Baghdad was being expelled.

"CNN has been ordered out of Iraq...because they have become a propaganda tool to spread lies and rumors," said an information ministry official who declined to be identified.

CNN, based in Atlanta, Georgia, said its staff would probably have to travel overland to Jordan.

Overnight, CNN ran extensive live pictures of U.S. military units racing across the southern Iraq desert after they invaded the country and headed toward Baghdad, with little resistance.

Iraqi government officials, at a news conference, said such pictures being shown on Western TV networks were fabrications.

Most U.S. television networks left Baghdad before the war began on Thursday.

I hate CNN. Fox News is much better and they really don\'t spread propaganda. But they seem to be more prowar than the other stations.

What channels do you recommend?

I have CNN, BBC and Sky News and some others that I rarely watch.
I mainly watch Sky News and BBC. But BBC has this VERY annoying reporter, with a VERY annoying voice that I cant stand. I have to switch channel whenever I see her.

(I’m not sure if I can get the Arabic channels.. Haven’t looked yet. I know that I could before I got digital-tv.).
Our own news channels are worthless as they get the news long after the rest.
On the positive side their reporting might be less biased.

Isn\'t Sky News a Fox affiliate?

I despise Shepard Smith.  The guy is a complete idiot.  I met him years ago when carnival cruise lines cought on fire and came into port.  The guy is an arrogant dick hole.

But that\'s just my opinion.

He also says some of the stupidest stuff.
