Has anyone out there messed with Longhorn yet?  More than likely you wouldn\'t reply if you had.  I am surprised they are going to totally redesign again.  Seems like they would push XP forward one or two more times in their updated versions, but according to this article they look to be changing everything.

i tried it out for a few seconds at a friends place, he had the alpha version installed.
it really didnt feel that much different than xp but it looked a bit better tho, unfortunately i really didnt get to tinker with it much so i have no idea about the performance.

Yeah I messed with 2 months ago, honestly it was a waste of time, considering it was only in it\'s pre-alpha stage. Keep in mind when MS releases an OS as complete it\'s really only in it\'s beta stage, so you can imagine how far from complete longhorn is.

I saw the build the other day was at like 4015.  That\'s usually good enough to run fairly decently.  I have been working with my Avid doing video editing though a lot lately  so I don\'t want to mess with it yet.  Especially if it isn\'t that big of a difference.

I\'m sort of curious as to why people have any interest in trying MS operating systems that are in alpha.  I\'ve never understood that.

You couldn\'t pay me to spend time using an MS OS that is even more buggy than their genuine release products.  Not only is it agony dealing with the bugs, but where\'s the entertainment in it?  I can\'t imagine anything more boring and soulless than yet another MS operating system.  "Oh look, the task bar looks totally different!"  BFD.  :)

Longhorn is gonna suck for gaming..it uses up so many resources for the 3d interface it\'s rediculous.  BUt i\'m sure video cards will improve by leaps and bounds by then, but still.  I don\'t see any need to have a 3d desktop with fancy animations for my menus and icons.

I\'m somewhat satisfied with my XP Pro and i\'m not gonna change for quite a while....

That whole 3d interface thing is nothing but a gimick.  Who cares about it?  What purpose does it server other than hogging resources?  I mean, c\'mon, rotating windows, spinning windows.  WTF is that about.

And isn\'t Longhorn supposed to be the one with that pallidum thing?  Is MS still pursuing that horrid "feature"?

I thought microsoft learned their lesson with windows ME, that less is better.  XP came out supporting less hardware and wasn\'t as backwards compatiable with old software, trimming down and cutting out abundant code (adding to stability and fewer crashes).  

Longhorn is definately not where I want to see OS\'s going, it\'s going to be a resource hog.  I just want a simple streamlined OS that does what I need to do, not flash with no substance.

The consequences of TCPA:

Informational self-determination isn\'t existing anymore, it\'s not possible to save, copy, create, program, ..., the data like you want. This applies for privates as for companies

The free access to the IT/Software market is completely prevented for anyone except the big companies, the market as we know it today will get completely destroyed

Restrictions in the usage of owned hardware would apply

The liberty of opinion and the free speech on the internet would finally be eliminated

The own rights while using IT-technologies are history.

The national self-determination of the der particular countries would be fully in the hands of the USA

Probably the world would break into two digital parts (Countries that express against TCPA)

I had no idea longhorn is gonna have this...along with all hardware made in the future (from modems, hard drives, processors..you name it).  Better enjoy our digital freedoms while we still have them.
