Any of you good at writing resumes?
« on: July 15, 2003, 08:04:45 AM »
I am dying here.  I really need to do mine, but I don\'t know how to put into words for a resume what in the hell I do.  Have any of you used a resume writing service or anything?  I have one I have been toying with, but I do a hell of a lot I haven\'t written on the thing.:mecry:

I think my resumes are pretty good, and that comes from reading other resumes when filling positions.  I know what I want to see, and how frustrating it is when idiots clutter their resumes with BS instead of making it clear and easily readable.  Even something as simple as accouting for previous work history in chronological order seems to be beyond some people.  It makes it look like they\'re hiding something, and those resumes usually go directly into the circular file.

The other side is you need to know the terminology of your particular industry, and what people expect to see there.  I know it for my line of work, but I would have no clue about other industries, so that\'s why I don\'t like to help with resumes.  I think I might do more harm than good.

Microsoft word templates for resumes.  Basically, download (or open) these things and fill in the blanks.  Much easier than working from scratch and these are obviously fairly universal, but the best part is the amount to choose from on that link.  Give it a shot, it could make some great results.

I have an alright looking resume, it\'s just the wording and the capturing of what I do in a precise manor without being redundant that is the hard part.

Ah, thank God for cut and paste.  I can maintain my qualities as a cyberslacker.

You mind if I smell embarrassed correctly?
