Anybody else get this network? I get it through Direct TV, and I think because we get the Starz package.

It\'s cool.  I saw American History X on it a while ago, and just today I saw a movie called Girlfight about a young girl from Queens who learns to box and ultimately beats the shit out of her dead beat dad.

It\'s a cool network, and a nice break from garbage like Legally Blond 2 and let downs like Tomb Raider and 28 Days.

I may be mistaken on the meaning of an independant film but both of those movies were major productions that were in a theatre near you.

yeah, I always thought that an ID film was one that was low budget and not a feature film.

Not always, but usually. Depends who they get to back them.

ALso, I didnt think American History X hit theaters, least I didnt see previews for the release.

IFC plays a bunch of great films, one of my favorite movie channels.

The term independent can also be used for movies made without major studio backing (yet still quite big budget movies).

Star Wars from Episode V to II (in chronological order of course) were independent films. :) Episode III hasn\'t been released yet, but it is also an indipendent film.

just because lucas puts up 23523587$ of his own own money to fund star wars DOES NOT make it an independant film

sigh.....

no. the fact that he had complete control of his work without any forceful interference from anyone else makes it an indie. indie films aren\'t defined by the money behind their production.
