Those assholes. The AUD only just recently got back on its feet and now they neuter it. I guess now they\'ll try to illegalise region free DVD players and drives to screw us even more. I admit that I\'ve never imported any of my games or movies but I would like to feel secure that I would be able to whenever I want. When I grow up, ima buy Sony and change its stupid, ass screwing, policies.

I know your only joking, but I find these Australian remarks quite rude and sometimes you can come across as being pretty racist.

As for the article, what does this have to do with the Aussie $? The ******* rules are stupid IMO, they should either be legal or illegal and just be done with it.

I understand that they are pissed about pirated software, but shouldn\'t only chips that allow the play of pirated games be illegal? Surely someone out there can create a chip to allow multi region gaming without the abilty to play pirated discs.

Also, why the hell do the new models in Australia say that you can use DVD R/DVD RW in the machines??? Its stupid, its allowing piracy on one scale, but not the other.

Do you honestly think that someone, who develops a regional security into their products FOR A REASON wants a chip on the market that overcomes this?

Obviously, it\'s one and the same security process that checks the region code and the disc\'s authenticy. It\'s natural that a company like Sony would want mod-chips to be illegal. You would too, given if you were in that position.

Bullcrap. They\'re trying to force a halfassed solution to a major problem resulting in the screwage of legitmate "niche" fans with absolutley no effect on pirates. All this ruling means is mod chipping will go underground and piracy will continue regardless.

If its about DVD region and no mod chipping then there could be a software solution.
Over here in the UK we have Region X DVD sold in places like Game & shops like them its perfectly legal and does not invalidate your warranty.

DVD region isn\'t the issue, you can buy gamesharks and XPress Cheater here at stores and its perfectly legal. They don\'t like chips that allow you to play pirated games.

One of the reasons they don\'t like imports is, for example, if everyone got into the importing scene and bought for GT4 2 months before its Australian release, no one would buy the PAL copies, and all of SCEA\'s money going into advertising etc would go to waste.

Importing would never become the norm, but SONY obviously don\'t want to risk it at all.

Importing costs a lot more money. Why in hell would we import a game that we know is coming out here? 4 months isn\'t worth the extra cash. We\'re mentioning DVD regions because this could be used as some sort of legal precedent. I hope The ACCC kicks their asses.

The ACCC will just shove it in their faces. Consumers have the right to the cheapest and broadest range according to them, and if they can get that from using a *******, then thats that.

This is the issue that was brought up the last time that went to the federal courts.
