State\'s Rights vs. Federal Authority

Which do you think is better for our country? Do you think that we are better off if the states dictate and enforce law or if the federal government dictates and enforces law?

If you chose other what do you think would be better?

I\'m for a weaker federal government and stronger states.  We still need a central government, but the feds have way too much power.

No matter what happens, if every case was appealed until it was in the Supreme Court, then Federal Statutes would be all that matters.  If that\'s the case, then bickering about state laws is futile.  Besides, in certain states, they have some really wacky laws and we here in California are no exception to that.  Laws should be voted on just as presidents and governors are voted on for the Federal law system to make it all equal.

My thing with states rights is that before they were increased in the late 1800s in order to sway the presidential election, blacks in general were actually on equal ground with whites. If they were never increased I am ALMOST positive that we would have had a black/woman president by now.

The time after the civil war was actually a "renaissance" in african american culture. States Rights nipped that in the bud and set things back decades.
