Playstation 2 not a games console "Sony applauds decision"

SONY IS LIKELY to welcome a ruling by a European Court that the Playstation is a computer, and not a games console.

Sony has to pay extra for machines imported into the European Union if they\'re designated as game consoles rather than computers, and argued that the box should be defined on components inside, rather than on the purpose of the box.

And, according to the Associated Press, Sony will now apply for rebates on previous taxes levied, which could amount to a sum not far away from millions of dollars.

The Court of First Instance has accepted Sony\'s claim that the Playstation should be classified as a computer.

So we better not see Sony majoring on the PS2 as a games console, otherwise it kind of undermines its argument

If my ps2 is a computer then sony can send me a free hard disk drive, mouse and keyboard to connect to it.

Thats old news.Its almost a 3 year old matter.thats why Pal territories got the visual basic thing with their demo disk in the first place so the PS2 would be considered some kind of a computer to avoid taxes.

I thought it was just going to be some gay publicity stunt type move to bring attention for no reason. Like how they always insist that people call it the playstation 2 computer entertainment system. That pisses me off.

Good move. Why are some of u so piss off? It can only means that the PS2 price can go lower somemore should they decide to pass the benefit to the consumers.

In fact, every game console maker should be classifying their machine as a computer for the next gen machine!!!

yes, the XBOX is more of a PC than the PS2 based on hardware similiarities...BUT that doesn\'t means the PS2 isn\'t a computer.

Just because the MAC isn\'t a PC, can you say it isn\'t a computer?
The MAC isn\'t a PC, but it\'s every inch a computer a PC is.

and so are those classic Ataris,Commodores,BBC,Spectrum,Amstrad machines of yonder years.

And just WHAT is a computer anyway??

A COMPUTER is a machine that COMPUTES. And all those machines above sure the heck classified as one!!
