the water is probably a dextrose mixture.  If not, his body will start to produce more cortisol that will break down proteins into glycogen to be used by the muscles and brain, so he\'ll loose an incredible amount of muscle tissue and could "starve" his brain.  Too much of a risk, thus he has to be getting a dextrose sollution in the water.
