Perhaps we shouldnt judge it as a handheld console for gaming but as a handheld device for multible uses.

Yeah but for a fraction of the price you can get a far superior phone and GBA SP.

Nokia deserves to take a fall for this.

I\'m with Unicron on this... Nokia didn\'t come out with the N-gage as a device deisgned solely for gaming... instead, they integrated four  popular devices into one... a phone, a gaming device, an mp3 player, and a pda. And yes, you can buy all of those items separately for about the same price ( if, of course, you cheap out on the mp3 player and pda... ) but that isn\'t the point...

the whole point of combining elements is to make it more convenient, and in my opinion, in so much as I pre-ordered one despite the hype, Nokia has succeeded at just doing that.

What and you couldn\'t of just got a far superior phone plus a GBA + games for a fraction of the price.

God  you must have more money than sense.

Excuse me, while you guy\'s talk about a "step up" I want to point a few things out.

  • A "step up" does not mean making a hybrid. The N-Gage is not sure if it wants to be a phone, MP3 player or a portable game system. It\'s a hybrid and from what I understand, based off first impressions, it\'s not good at any of those things.
  • A "step up"? Have any of you read on how to change the game cartridge out? You actually have to take the back off (snaps off) , remove the battery, remove another snap and then take the game out. This is a not a step up. Hell, this isn\'t a step backwards. This is a huge leap in the wrong direction in every possible manner.
  • It priced to much to truly be a competiive systme.
  • With Sony releasing their PSP (which I think will be yet another failure in the handheld market), and Nintendo\'s GBA:SP dominating the handheld market, there really is no need or place for the Nokia N-Gage.

That said - I will buy one, once they are discountined...For my collection, of course.

The internal hardware appears to be a step up. Fully-polygonal Tomb Raider isn\'t apparently possible on GBA.
