Did anyone see that Barrera vs Pacquiao fight last week?
« on: November 24, 2003, 06:47:14 AM »
This was a lopsided but exciting fight! Barrera is the featherweight champ who beat that showoff Naseem Hamed, England\'s best featherweight in history. So Pacquiao, known as Pac-man, was expected to lose to Barrera. Pac-man is known for his quick knockouts of his opponents but he was in a lighter division just below Barrera. Most experts picked Barrera to win by a close margin, if not by knock out. They also knew it would be war because of Pac-man\'s relentless style.

And what a war it was! HOLY COW! Pac-man was like a video game fighter! Someone kept mashing the attack buttons and he just kept throwing punches! Poor Barrera was overwhelmed by the amount of quick and rapid combinations this Pac-man threw! He fought back as best he could but the other guy just wouldn\'t quit throwing punches! AND FOR 11 WHOLE ROUNDS!

Eventually, Barrera\'s corner saw enough and threw in the towel.

*puts Pac-man controller down* My thumbs hurt! :p

Berrera didn\'t take the fight seriously enough, otherwise he would have won.

PS. Naseem Hamed is a total tit, I never rated him anyway. Berrera showed him for what he really was, and that was a second rate fighter in a 3rd rate division.

Hameds real problem was fighting opponents that were way outside his class bracket, and that gave him a false sense of superiority. Berrera blew that away, it\'s no wonder that he has only had one fight since losing his phoney 100% record, he\'s shit-scared of taking on another top fighter, he knows as well as I do, that he will be brushed aside with relative ease

Brendan Ingle saw the iceberg coming, he jumped ship in time.

Even if Hamed does try to mount a comeback, he won\'t do much, he\'s been out of action for too long.

Anyway, back to Berrera, if that was a title fight, he would have trained harder, and would have won.

I don\'t think Barrera could have beaten Pacman with or without excuses. He got exposed by faster younger fighter. He\'s not even taking a rematch. That tells you something right there : Barrera has no answer for Pacman.

He\'s not taking a rematch because it wasn\'t a title fight, it\'s not a financially viable option for him to take the rematch. To Berrera, it was probably nothing more than a paid sparring session, something to keep him in trim between real title fights.
If the title was on the line in that fight, Berrera wouldn\'t have lost, and his corner most certainly wouldn\'t have thrown the towel in so readily.

Are you serious? Barrera doesn\'t care about the belts, he just wanted to be beat the champs and be the people\'s champion. That\'s why he opted to drop the belts rather than pay to keep a paper title. Pacquiao is now considered a lineal champ, the first in a looooong time. Barrera may not have held an alphabet soup title, but many regarded him as the champ. And speakin about financial option? You\'re head is screwed on wrong if you think this rematch won\'t bring in a lot money. The featherweight level needed new blood and Pacman was just the right man.

Who\'s the title holder of the featherweight? Juan Manuel Marquez. He\'s been trying to fight Barrera for the longest but Barrera just didn\'t think the kid was ready for him. Now that Pac is considered the best, JMM is hoping for a match. However, Erik Morales, at 130, wants to fight Pacman.

I think you seriously underestimate Pacman.
