Hey cellphone freaks
« on: December 03, 2003, 04:10:19 AM »
I just got a huge bill from my cell phone provider and I am thinking about jumping ship.  AT&T has some good deals now.

Can you tell me anything about their service and what about this phone?

A buddy of mine up here in Baltimore is with AT&T and he likes them.  I also have the phone one step below that one and it works great.  What cell carrier are you thinking about leaving?  I\'ve been with Cingular for over 2 years now and i\'ve never had a problem with them.

The Ericsson is an excellent phone, and if I remember correctly you have a powerbook? If so get a bluetooth addon (pretty cheap if you buy from a 3rd party) and enjoy the wireless bluetooth connectivity between the phone and lappy.

I am with Sprint.  I like the service, but I just got a 105 dollar phone bill and now with them allowing you to transfer phone numbers I figured I would look around.

One thing that scares me is the 2 year commitment from AT&T.  I fear commitment.

Why does your cellphone need to communciate with your laptop?  To share contact lists, or what?  Seems somewhat unnecessary.

That would be pretty sweet to import my outlook contact list through bluetooth, but I don\'t have wireless on my laptop.

Well, you could also surf the net with your cell connected to the laptop.

Cool!  Does it cost any extrra per net minute vs. phone minute?  And do you know how fast the connection is comparable to?  56k or dsl?

I\'ve been getting great service with Verizon.  When my buddies\' phones don\'t get any reception mine usually does.  I don\'t use it much so it\'s about $40/mo with some family plan.

Is it just me or does it feel when you have a small phone like that the people on the other end cant hear you? I personlly like the clam phones the ones that fold out from the half way point small yet when folded out the reach from ear to mouth...

my phone is the same size as the one Vid linked to (just a lesser model) and people have commended me over the phone about how clear and loud my voice was coming through.  My dad swore I was calling him from a land line... when I told him it was my new cell he was blown away.

At first I was a little turned off by how small it is, but after a while it\'s nice that it\'s so small.  It\'s about the size of a pack of cigarettes, just 1/2" narrower and 1/3 less thick.

OK, here is what I did.

I called Sprint and told them about the deal.

I told them that I wanted to get the new phone and the better plan that AT&T offered.

They quickly sent me over to the retention department.

I am now getting 900 anytime minutes and nights and weekends free.  Nights starting at 8pm for 39 bucks.

She also gave me 75 bucks off a new phone in addition to any rebates I can find.  Only problem is I just bought my phone a year ago and rebates aren\'t offered but every 18 months.  SO maybe I\'ll play the game again in 6 months and get me a palm phone.

Yea, thats what I was going to advise you to do.  A couple family friends of mine explained to sprint they had a better plan going with blah blah blah service so Sprint just throws at them great deals that they don\'t normally offer.  Hell he also had free Sprint to Sprint thrown in there just because he could.
