« on: March 28, 2004, 01:17:02 PM »

When ever I select  to boot it just goes blank. Any fixes or is this thing dead?

Does the bios detect it? Can you hear it try to spin? A few things you can try. Another power cable and IDE cable to the drive.

Try it on a different IDE port while you\'re at it.  If you can that is.

Go into your main menu / standard cmos features/settings and it will have a list of currently supported hds etc. Whats your motherboard, i can then tell u how to exactly see if your bios is reading it.

Thanx souly but it\'s fried I check to see if the bios detect it and it does.

The hdd is spinning and clunkering like never before.

It will load up to the window icon thingy but after that it just all blank and cluncky noise from the hdd.

And this pc is 3 years old so I am sure the warranty is all but gone on the hdd.

Does it sound like a ping pong ball dropping on a table? (kinda a pinging noise)
If so the heads are magnetizing to the platter and your hd is quite dead, or so i\'ve read.

Yep souly pretty much that is how it sounds:(

What causes that. This pc is only 3 years old and this is a segate hdd should have lasted for more than 3 years.
