Lets hear it for Jenson Button
« on: March 21, 2004, 02:24:45 PM »
Linky thing

The boy done good, he drove a faultless race to finish on the podium for the first time in his career.

Schumacher once again drove off into the sunset, with Montoya struggling to keep up.

But, for me, the day belongs to JB, it was a classy drive. God only knows what he could do in that Ferrari. I\'d say he\'d be closer to MS than Barrichello is.

HELL YEAH!  I watched the race live, and it was awesome.  I almost had a heart attack when they cut to the BAR car that stopped due to engine failure.  Then I found out it was Sato san who retired, not Button.  Sad news for Sato but damn, better him than Button.

It was so cool to see Jenson display some REAL emotion when he pulled up and climbed out of the car.  Especially after we just watched the Schumacher-robot run his "celebration program."  I swear I am already sick of those robotic little jumps and finger pointing he does.

But this is Button\'s moment, so let\'s not forget that.  An amazing result, and I hope we see more in the future.

Yeah, I had exactly the same reaction. I saw it cut to Sato. then heard Martin Brundle say "oh no!!". My heart sank, for about 5 seconds, I thought it was Jenson, then I leant forward and looked closer, I saw the front of his helmet and could just make out that it wasn\'t him, then the caption came up with Sato\'s name on it.

Then there was another scare later on. We just came back from an ad break in the UK, and it showed Dave Richards on the screen with a worried look on his face, both Brundle & James Allen explained that they had been worried about JB dropping off the times over the last few laps, and that Barrichello was reeling him in, again, fortunately, it was just a minor thing, as Jenson started to slow down the rate at which Rubens was catching him.

And yes, it did make a refreshing change watching him get out of the car, it\'s got to the point now where you can predict what MS will do on the podium.

We should just have one general F1 thread to post this stuff in.  Maybe merge the previous threads, and rename it.  I think that would be less confusing than having a separate thread for each event.

I\'m kicking myself for not going to the Mexico WRC this month. Next year, I hope to go. Oh...this is about F1? Heh....oops. Might as well merge MotorSports thread into one. THere\'s like......only 4 enthusiasts here. ;)

This just shows what happens when you sack someone (Villeneuve) who is taking a huge wage. Since he went the team have much more cash to spend on development etc.

I would actually like to discuss the WRC more, because I feel like I know more about it.  However, I don\'t think we need to compress everything into one thread.  I wouldn\'t hurt to have a separate thread for each series, WRC, F1, NASCAR...   (Just kidding...  :p)

Don\'t forget DTM and JGTC!  :D

I oughta smack you for ruining this thread with forbidden word : NASCAR! :p

Let\'s make a trip to Mexico next year. You\'re buyin\' coz you have the fancier car, therefore, you have more money. :D

I never reallly rated Villeneuve anyway. He was a worthy world champion in 97, but he\'s done sod all since then. He got too concerned with trying to get as big a £££ contract as possible. He had the opportunity to join McLaren a few years ago if he took a pay cut and turned it down. Quite simply put, he priced himself out of a competitive seat. He chose a mega £££ contract before a competitive team. He paid the price for being greedy, the one team that were willing to blow money on him decided it was enough, and told him his services were no longer required.

There are a few people saying he might be in for a seat at Williams next season, as it looks almost certain that both of their drivers will be leaving at the end of this season. I personally don\'t think he should get it, he simply doesn\'t deserve it anymore, and to be honest, I\'ll be very surprised if he does get it.

Jacques has had his spot in the limelight, it\'s time for him to let go for good, and let one of the young guns ascend the throne.

F1 is not the right place for mushy sentimentallity, F1 is a ruthless sport, only the youngest, fittest drivers with a passion for racing, and who\'s flame is still burning with intense vigour will survive and prosper.

If Villeneuve comes back, he will be shown for what he is by his prospective team mate...... and that is a money orientated passionless driver, who\'s racing flame died out years ago.

If Gilles Villeneuve knew what Jacques did for the latter part of his career, he\'d be turning in his grave. There was a man who was only interested in racing, that camew first, money came second. He put his life on the line to go as fast as possible, and ended up paying the ultimate price for it.

See, this history on Villeneuve is something I didn\'t know much about.  I\'m a newcomer to F1, so I don\'t know a lot of the back stories.  Thanks for educating me.

That\'s a good idea, but NO WAY IN HELL am I taking my S2000 to Mexico!  :p  A hoarde of criminals would probably ram my car and then sue me in some Kangaroo court.  Either that, or it would just disappear.  Where do they take cars that are stolen in Mexico?  :)  Guatemala?

Is your track air conditioned, Tyrant?  :)  It\'s going to be hotter than hell at an outdoor race, isn\'t it?  I guess probably you\'re used to it.

nah its not air conditioned :p, but the thing is that the weather has been great and if it continues this way, the temp is gonna be around 25-30c on race day (not bad).

oh and yes we are used to it, a temp of 40C is considered pleasant :p.
