Author Topic: Help: Is it possible to play non-progressive games on PS2 through 480P?  (Read 895 times)

here is my problem. I got a 50001 PS2 last weekend and very much enjoying it. The problem i\'m having is with the progressive feature using Sony\'s component cables.

At first, nothing would show up using the Sony component cables and there was nothing in the instruction manual on how to turn on the progressive feature. So I went back to the regular cables and turned on the progressive feature (you have to use a DVD and press stop turn on the feature... who knew!?). So now, the DVD works in 480P but none of my games do (only have GT3 and a 007 game so far). The Sony boot screen doesn\'t even show if I reset the console; the TV just says no signal... Let\'s assume those two games are not progressive, does this mean I need to switch the damn cables every time i want to switch from a DVD to a non-progressive game or vice versa? This seems incredibly stupid...

The TV is a Zenith 27 inch 4:3. I don\'t have the model number but it was taken off of the show floors about a year ago... I know that it only has one real component input (a second one for DVD is fake...) and I\'m using that one, not the DVD one. Curiously, the cables work fine in the DVD inputs, which leads me to believe it\'s a console problem. I just want to make sure that before I exchange the PS2, it\'s possible to play non-progressive games in 480p.

Thanks for any help!!

I don\'t have to switch a thing when I play progressive and non-progressive games on my PS2. USUALLY you have to press Triangle and X to enable progressive on the supported games, so...

A strange case.

Most games are 480i and the PS2 has no problem with sending that signal to your tube.  Most if not, all TVs should be able to switch back and forth between the two.

You are sure the TV supports progressive?

Hmm...if I don\'t remember incorrectly, wasn\'t you the one that recommend me to use rubbing alcohol to clean the marker off my Castlevania:SOTN?

Anyway, my  2001 model ps2 is interlaced and i use composite video.  My bedroom\'s tv is analog and have no component or s video for that matter.  So I don\'t know how to help.

Also, the above poster said, are you sure your TV support 480p?  Or its just regular 480i tv?

He\'s already stated that his DVDs run in progressive, so it should support 480p at least...

That shouldn\'t matter though. He can\'t seem to play 480i games on his television... Which is very odd. There\'s no need for me to switch my component cables up with regular ol\' RGBs when I play a 480i game. I should see what PS2 model I have...

heh no its not wine. Its prefered "inopnevma" here in cyprus.Although I believe it is also a product from grapevines. Its produced by the same manufactures that produce wine here in Cyprus but this is just pure alcohol. Not for drinking. Its for general use.I must say though that "zivania" a drink is this thing just with less alcohol.

I wouldnt reccomend trying wine to clean your disks.
