Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time
« on: September 06, 2004, 08:22:32 PM »
I didn\'t even know this game was released, come to find out it\'s been available for a month!  I expected at least one of you would comment on it...

I only just started it but I really like what it\'s doing so far.  It has the best real time battle system I\'ve played with...if Final Fantasy XII has an equally deep but easy and fun to use battle system then you can definitely count me in.

The graphics are nice but somewhat out dated, then again this game has been in development for five years.  The cg comes off very nice, the intro definitely caught my interest.  The in-game graphics are a bit disappointing, the environments in particular.  I\'m in a corridor setting at the moment and it seems like they used the same three textures everywhere.  The enemies look nice though as do the special effects.

The voice overs are probably the weak point of the game so far, and the somewhat long conversations that take place. Think Xenosaga but not as dramatic, interesting, or meaningful...at least an hour in anyway.

Has much potential mostly because of the battle system, definitely looking forward to putting some quality time on it in the coming days.

I\'ve heard the battle system rocks but the storyline and repetiveness (lots of dungeon crawling)  keeps it from being a flawless game.

Nah, it\'s been out for a little over a week, not a month.  Still, if you like Star Ocean at all, you should give Tales of Symphonia a try on the Cube.

Looks back at the review I read...you\'re right.
Wonders where I got August 6th as the released date?

I\'ve been meaning to try Tales of Symphonia, I watched a trailer at Toys r us and it is visually impressive.  Is the battle system similar?

The battle system is really well executed and the AI controlled players are actually pretty smart.  Trust me, it\'s worth playing.  If you have an extra 50 bucks lying around, or a game or two to trade in, do it for ToS.  It\'s worth it.

Okay, I\'m three hours into Star Ocean and I still have mixed feelings about it.

It has this amazing battle system that\'s just getting better as I go.  The AI controlled players are very smart and you can customize how they act.  It\'s alot of fun.

I\'ve settled in to the graphic style and decided it\'s nice, not as polished as Final Fantasy or Xenosaga but it works.

I think I\'m going to turn off the voice overs if I can, they just aren\'t that good.  One character in particular, Cliff, is just flat out annoying.

There seems to be an inconsistency with the game\'s cinematics.  The cg is very well directed, imo and I\'m finding myself anxious to see more.  The in-game cinematics however are certainly lacking and mostly awkward with bad cuts and transitions, not to mention most of the conversations are long-winded and, worst of all, pointless.

I\'m not entirely sold on the game but I\'ll keep an open mind until the five day rental is up.:)

Thanks for the response, Ryu.  I\'ll definitely check it out after I\'m through with Star Ocean.

very similar to star ocean:second story - which is the one on psx - one of the best rpgs for that system outside of the ff series really

defintely in my top 10 list

this game is so far pretty nice - ive enjoyed myself a lot - and wait till little bit longer ginko - im currently 14 hours into it and its been a lot of fun - but there arent really too many twists yet - although ive gotten to where i can synthesize and create items which is pretty fun - you can make patents for it and buy em for 1/5th the price at stores - which is nice

all in all the games voice overs are little weak - although most of the initial main characters are fine - cliff hasnt upset me that much but im not too fond of him either

the two that drive me nuts is pepitta and one of the carriage drivers with the squeeky voice - you will know who i mean when you get there marlene i think or something like that
This Sig is a Work in Progress.

Pepitta hasn\'t annoyed me yet, my friend made a comment about her though...I just can\'t stand Cliff.

Whatever the game\'s doing it must be good because I find myself wanting to play it, but I don\'t see myself paying $50 for it.  Perhaps I can find it cheap on ebay...

I like it so far.I am in the woods now(about 1,5 hour in the game).

The intro is cool. When I saw it I was like "Man this game must look amazing" untill I saw the ingame graphics and I was like "Meh"

The Battle system is indeed impressive although I don\'t like that the game freezes for milliseconds during a battle(kind of like it stutters).Sort of like in Zelda TWW where everytime you hit an enemy the screen would freeze.I would rather have it to be one fluent motion.

Anyway It\'s kinda early in the game for me to give more impressions but so far I like it.

Never mind that freezing. It only happened in the first battle(In the computer simulator, you know the training).

Btw this game reminds me of Sudeki. When you\'re walking through a town with that top-down view with that blue haired boy(Fayth) and that red-haired girl(Nel).

I\'ve never actually played Sudeki but it kinda reminds me of it(if that makes sense)   :fro:
