Bush wired during September 30th Debate?

Was Bush Wired? Ridiculous, Campaign Says

CHANHASSEN, Minn. - Campaign aides to President Bush (news - web sites) on Saturday laughed off rampant Internet speculation about whether the president was wired to get help from advisers during his first debate with Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites). "It\'s not true. It\'s ridiculous," Bush campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

A still photo from television footage of Bush as he debated Kerry on Sept. 30 in Coral Gables, Fla., appears to show a small, boxy shape between the president\'s shoulder blades.

Campaign officials declined to discuss it further because they weren\'t certain a bulge even existed and do not want to appear to take seriously what they consider a "wild accusation."

Bloggers and others began to muse on various Web sites that the bulge could have been a radio receiver that the president\'s aides could use to give him answers during the debate. One Web site, http://www.isbushwired.com, is devoted solely to the matter.

"Some people have been spending too many hours looking at left-wing conspiracy Web sites," Stanzel said. "Did you hear the one about Elvis moderating the third debate?"

Interesting theory, but the only problem would be if he was certainly he would have done a lot better.

Bullet proof vest perhaps?  That was my first guess considering there was a public audience there.

NYTimes.com

You have to register but someone else had pulled these out already...

"There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, a campaign spokeswoman.

"It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

Ms. Devenish could not say why the "rumpling" was rectangular.

Nor was the bulge from a bulletproof vest, according to campaign and White House officials; they said Mr. Bush was not wearing one.

There is obvously something there - I don\'t see why they deny it. My guess is a bullet proof vest  - but they deny that also.

Not really. I wont say that Bush is slow but it would be hard for a lot of people to keep up with somebody on a wire and make it sound like your own. You should know this. Youre reaction time from the end of the question cant be forever and its hard to listen and talk at the same time.

Could be true but im not crossing my fingers.

Two main reason I don\'t think it is anything -

Kerry would have noticed something - and Titan is right you need an earpeice.

Secondly, if Bush had someone on the other end of the line - there were things he flat out missed during the first debate that even I could have pounced on - let alone a skilled advisor feeding him lines would have given him much better responses.

Anyway, I don\'t think it matters... I even said to my wife during the first debate that it looked like Kerry was using a Palm or Pocket PC when Bush was speaking.  Then there was the Republican theories that he took something out of his pocket right before the debate.  I think all it is nonsense.  Let them debate and let the chips fall where they may.

It would explain the pauses before each answer but it wouldn\'t explain a lot of the answers.

a little off topic i was watching bush give a speech not too long ago in france...and you could actually hear the guy telling bush what to say before bush was saying it my guess is that it might have been some kind of audio glitch...me and the wifey was watching it and i was like "i don\'t think we\'re supposed to be hearing that!"...i mean i know the prez has people writing speeches for him but i never knew that when he recites them there\'s somebody on the other end repeating it for him...

as far as what\'s on bush\'s back? it\'s one of those demon thing\'s that cursed the nurses in silent hill 1 :p...seriously it makes no difference what it was at this point...
