Alrighty, need some help, please..
« on: November 23, 2004, 12:01:12 AM »
I\'ve been having some extensive troubles with my computer lately which has resulted in my installing and reinstalling of various windows OS\'s over the last couple of weeks. Anyways, I\'ve hardly been using it due to the fact that I was living at my friends house and he had the far superior computer.

On to the problem, I ended up with Windows 2000, but none of my drivers were installed. I found my old graphics card CD (GeForce2 whatever) and installed them, found my modem and plugged it in, but I didn\'t have the CD. So I went out and bought a brand new modem today and installed it (it\'s a dial-up, V.90). Anyhoo, when I go into device manager the only thing it tells me it\'s missing the drivers for are the PCI devices.. personally, I don\'t even know what this is for.

But when I try to connect to the internet to register my Half-Life 2, all my previous connections have a big red X in their icon, and it says that the modem is not available. But I have uninstalled an re-installed my modem, and apparently the device is "working properly". The thing is, though that I\'m not trying to connect through these old ISP\'s, I\'m trying to move over a friends account (the person I just moved in with) to my computer so I can register. So I go into the make new connection, and the wizard comes up and I select all the right options, and type in the phone number and passwords and what have you, and I get to the end of the installation and it just tells me that it can\'t connect.

Have to go now, will reply later.. can anyone help?

Well if you don\'t have the right PCI drivers your never going to be able to connect the internet.

Try disabling Dial Tone. Can\'t remember how you do it, I haven\'t dealt with a outdated POS for a long time.

does you motherboard have drivers that need to be installed?  Sounds like you system can\'t see any PCI devices.

Well, it can\'t dial because it won\'t even open up the dial-up connection boxes.

When I try to make a new connection it gets to the end of the wizard and then says there\'s an error and to try making a new connection by double clicking New Connection in My Computer, which is exactly what I\'m doing.

I\'d say it is to do with PCI devices, and in that case how would I fix it?
