Notebook: Pentium M vs. Pentium 4
« on: January 19, 2005, 07:30:12 AM »
Can someone explain to me what the M chip is?

The speed rating is half of the 4 chip, but they are roughly the same price.

What benefits does the chip have on it in leu of speed?

M = low power about equal performance, the p4 is really not suited for notebooks so the p4m was born.

Agreed. I would NOT recommend getting a P4 notebook.

A 1.8 M will perform like a 3.0 P4

the M is the better chip, but for Notebook gaming go AMD 64

AH, interesting.  THey shouldn\'t publish then the processor speed because if you didn\'t know that you would think the computer was half the speed.

I figured it was something. Merci.

I agree, they should do what AMD does and call it a p4M 3000+

mhz isn\'t what it\'s all about anymore

intel is going to start labeling their processors with "approximate performance" ratings.. something they and most everyone else gave AMD crap for a few years back.

and I agree... get the M if you just gotta have that intel feeling

^^yea, did you read about how Intel is not going to be making a 4ghz processor but is instead going to focus on other methods to crank more calculations out at the same speed of current processors?  Guess they finally hit a platuea plateua plateau.

plato.
