new processor?
« on: April 20, 2005, 06:48:16 AM »
I am thinking about getting a new processor for my studio comp. I\'ve never replaced one before. I have an AMD athalon 1800 xp. Don\'t know what mobo. It was the best when my chipset came out. I\'m not running into any probs, but new software could prob run faster. I have 1Gig ram, so that\'s not it. Also running external sound card.

Could someone with teh smart skee-yooz help me pick out a new CPU?

i\'m guessing that it\'s a socket A motherboard?  If you just want to replace the CPU then that could be a nice upgrade.  You may need to update your BIOS to handle a new CPU.

If you look around newegg they have a bunch of Socket A processors that are really good.

something like this should be a nice improvement over what you have now.  And although this is the same socket type as your 1800 xp, it may not work without a BIOS update.

Others around here can probably help you out more than I.
