I had something similar but no way you can compare it with the eye toy.It came with the Web cams installation disc.
One of the programs it had was a sceen saver which showed a screen of what your camera sees a ball that flowed in the screen and a basket.
It detected movement and for example if you moved your hand towards the ball the ball moved and started bouncing on the screen\'s "walls".You were supposed to make it enter the basket.

Fact is, Sony got this into the market and brought this experience to many people that haven\'t seen this before. It\'s a great thing.

Besides, you have yet to prove which software did it earlier. I\'d be quite interested to see for myself how good it was and how advanced the application behind it was. Care to provide us with a link?
So basically what you are saying is that if I invent something interesting it doesn\'t count as innovative until someone else makes the EXACT same thing and sells it to more people? That doesn\'t make any sense.

I mean, if you consider "stores all around the world" a niche market then I don\'t know what to tell you. The fact of the matter is that webcams have pretty much the same architecture and come with the same software functionality as the Eyetoy.

You are trying to use backwards ass logic to convince yourself that the Eyetoy was this great invention when it is not.

That\'s not what I said at all. I was saying that EyeToy brought something innovative and fun to millions of users that didn\'t know something like that was possible or even existed.

It was this quote by you (specifically the bolded one) that I directly disagree with:

Quote
Sony isn\'t known as an innovator when it comes to gaming. Unless Nintendo comes up with a new control feature, Sony is not likely to change their controller.

What I am saying is that Sony has been experimenting with a new control feature through EyeToy. There\'s also a patent filed from Sony over new controller-devices.

And btw; EyeToy was introduced in 2002 if memory serves me correct.

Quote
User interaction is not something that Sony seems to devote a lot of R&D to.

Another one of your quotes btw that is nullfied by the fact that Sony R&D have actively participated in the development of user-interaction through camera, as with new controller-type interfaces (there are patents filed on this).

As soon as Nintendo came out with the ingenious analog stick that has become a necessity in 3d gaming Sony scrambled to release the Dualshock controller and added an EXTRA analog stick.

Nintendo weren\'t the first to implement an analog stick either. Your point?

That wasn\'t the point argued though.

You\'re arguments I\'ve disagreed with have already been countered.

If you want this discussion to advance beyond the point I argued, you better define "innovator" first.
