A few weeks ago they implemented the pvp honor system - where you would kill members of the opposing faction and gain honorable kills and contribution points. The problem with this was low level towns (usually Horde) were constantly being overrun by the Alliance. On a typical day the world defense channel would be going off constantly and if any Horde went to defend one of those low level towns they would be outnumbered 10 to 1. In my case the Alliance outnumber the Horde so it was pretty bad and hard to gain HK\'s. Not only would the Alliance kill any pvp flagged player, but they would kill everything in the town including trivial quest NPC\'s.
What made it even worse was most of these "battles" resembled the old Civil War type battles where the two opposing forces would line up about 60 yards from each other and start firing away. This sucked for everyone except primarily mages and hunters since they are the only classes to have above 30 yard range capability that does significant damage. The rest of us would just sit there either waiting for some enemy rogues to attempt to gank one of our casters or wait for an Alliance retreat.
However, they released Battlegrounds on Tuesday and it seems to have corrected most of these issues. In Warsong Gulch it is 10 versus 10 and it is Capture the Flag so strategy is key. Range no longer is factor on this map as people can\'t stay in one place too long and have to either attack to get the flag or defend their flag in a small room. HK\'s are abundant and there is now no point in zerging low level noobie towns - Blizzard also introduced dishonor with could result in one losing ranks for killing trivial NPC\'s.
