mystiq,...i think you all know by now that almost at every turn, whenever there was some racial unjustice goin on (mostly something bein unfairly done to blacks, i\'m all over it),..but you can\'t blame bush on this one really...maybe race did have a small role in it, but not much,..i mean c\'mon it\'s not like this thing came out of no-where, they were trackin\' that thing for weeks...not to mention that the mayor himself had over 400 buses at his disposal to evacuate people from his city.(yeah even the one\'s that had NO WAY to get out)...then he has the nerve to pop s**t about the gov\'t sendin\' help....

all that money that the casino\'s were makin\' down there and not one cent went to makin\' those levee\'s stronger...when they knew someday something like this would happen....

I don\'t have any doubts that bush could give a rats ass about black people. It\'s probably true and most people know it.

Sometimes I think you hope that there is racial discrimination... so people can have sympathy for you.

Storm built in only 2 days.  Came across as a cat 1.  Didn\'t go cat 3 till the day before.

Casinos aren\'t even in the same state as the levees.

Getting the people evacuated is completely the Mayor\'s fault.  I remember watching those people file into the Superdome thinking that would be a total hell hole.  Even if the place survived, it was known that it wouldn\'t have power.  Why would you want to go into a place like that with no power and no running water.  Man, the stench.

Why he didn\'t buss the people out of town is beyond me.

I guess you haven\'t been through Shreveport in a while.  It is impossible to miss Harrah\'s while driving down I-20.

Louisiana doesn\'t have nearly the amount of casinos as mississippi has.

Does Louisiana bring in a half a mill a day in taxes from casinos?

Casino Tax Revenue:

Louisiana
 Fiscal Year 2003 -- $394,420,865

Riverboat -- $334,461,738
Land Based (New Orleans) -- $59,959,127
 Fiscal Year 2002 -- $393,129,090

Riverboat -- $335,558,157
Land Based (New Orleans) -- $57,570,933

Based on those figures - LA brings in $1,095.613 a day in tax revenue.

http://www.ncsl.org/programs/econ/taxrevenue.htm

Another site based on the gaming commissions from each state show that LA brings in more tax revenue from casino\'s than MS.  Though you are correct in that MS has more casino\'s they do not bring in the same tax revenue due to LA higher tax rate.

Louisiana

Commercial Casinos

Current # of Operating Casinos  18 (14 riverboats, 1 land-based, 3 racetrack casinos)

Gaming Format  Riverboat, land-based, racetrack casino

Casino Employees  20,048

Casino Employee Wages  $486.03 million

Gross Casino Gaming Revenue  $2.163 billion

Gaming Tax Revenue  $436.9 million

How Taxes Spent  General fund, city of New Orleans, public retirement systems, state capitol improvements, rainy day fund.

Rainy day fund?  Apparently not.  Also note that the City of New Orleans gets a nice chunk of the tax revenue.

Mississippi

Commercial Casinos

Current # of Operating Casinos  29

Gaming Format  Dockside

Casino Employees  28,932

Casino Employee Wages  $1.009 billion (includes tips and benefits)

Gross Casino Gaming Revenue  $2.781 billion

Gaming Tax Revenue  $333.01 million

How Taxes Spent  Housing, education, transportation, health care services, youth counseling programs
