CD_RW Drive problem...
« on: September 19, 2005, 02:19:15 PM »
Hey guys it\'s been awhile since I\'ve been around here but I figured you are the best source I have for computer issues. I called the place where I bought it and of course they don\'t know squat so.. you\'re my next best bet.

Every time I try and burn any kind of disc (whether it\'s an audio cd or data cd) I get an error message. I\'ve tried using Nero, the windows media burning software, and even iTunes. I get the same type of error wth each program. It starts initializing the CD but whenever it\'s about to write a track it stops and says there\'s an error or tells me there isn\'t enough room on the disc, even if it\'s a brand new disk.

I\'ve also tried using different brands of blank CD\'s, that hasn\'t helped either.

I tried to unistal the drivers but I\'m not sure if I did that correctly. I went into the device manager and unistalled the CD-RW drive driver from there. Then, I restarted my computer and the disk drive automatically reinstalls the newest drivers. The problem still occurs after this.

If there\'s anything else any of you guys might recommend I\'d be truly grateful. Thanks in advance..

does it happens to CD-RW discs only, or it also happens to CD-R discs too?

Thinking about it in a simple manner.  If it doesn\'t have enough room on the disc, are the audio/video/files you are burning to the disc is too big and over the limit of the capacity that the disc can store?  If so, remove a song or two or more to keep it under the limit...

Is it a no-name brand CD-RW drive?  Spend $20 and get a Lite-On model.

THX, no it\'s a Sony I believe. The disk I\'m using are CD-R, sorry for the confusion. And no, they aren\'t over the capacity. I\'ve tried writing even just one song/file to a disk and that doesnt even work. ANy ideas??

what is the rated maximum burn speed of your cd writer?  try burning slower speed than its max and see if that helps.

Say, if it can burn up to 40x, then try 20x, or 16x and see if it does the same.

Also, can you playback some CD-Audio when you put it in the burner?  Can it playback on the computer fine?  If not, then I guess something is wrong with your burner...
