hi guys,

my dad is (finally :)) getting a new pc, and I was hoping you could give some advice on what to get. He is looking for a pc that is build for work related stuff, so there\'s no need for, let\'s say, a geforce 7800gt or anything in that area. However, he has a relatively big budget, so don\'t be affraid to overdo some things.

the absolute maximum spending money is 2500 Euro\'s, and the package needs to include a new monitor and a new printer (I want his old one ;))

advice would be greatly appreciated,

We need a little more info.

Is he going to do graphic related stuff? Or is it just office-type stuff?

Does he need dual monitors? A color printer? How about a scanner?

Etc.

Indeed. More work info ! :nerd:

Generally speaking, office work has indeed standardized things such as ;

- A wi-fi ready motherboard with a heatpipe cooling for the chipsets becuz those little active fans are so loud. Of course you could also replace it with a passive heatsink and have a cpu cooler big enough to cool it.

I\'d still suggest Asus A8N-sli Premium.

Or maybe you have the patience to wait for socket M2. I guess not huh ?


- 19 inch monitor. If you go TFT get PVA since it produces the best colors and it has good contrast ratios.

- Western Digital Caviar HD reliable & quick acces times.

- Enough RAM which is also quick enough without OC. Corsair Twinx1024 PC3200C2 is not that expensive anymore and it can do the job very well.

hehe, think of my father as someone who barely knows the on and off button. He doesn\'t need anything fancy, it just has to do the job well in an easy way.

it will be used for internet purposes, office, multimedia (mostly picture editing) and to play patience ;)

knotter8, since you\'re from holland, perhaps you know a prebuild setup that is suitable, for sale at one of those (overpriced, I know) computer stores (like dynabyte or vi-computers)

Well, I suggest to stay away from Dixons, Dynabyte, It\'s and the likes.

The 700 to 1000 Euro price range might seem a nice deal but they just sell OEM crap ; If the pc has problems after a year or you wanna upgrade ; that\'ll be very troublesome with those "bargain deals".

Alot of good online stores in NL offer pc
assembly ; you place an order to have them assemble a pc from the components you pick yourself.
