Oblivion pushed back to 2nd Quarter 2006
« on: November 02, 2005, 07:25:07 PM »
Seen it from gaming-age.com, theres an article about Take 2 delaying some software plus the talk of Oblivion getting postponed.Thought that i could get the 360 this holiday , its all in vain:(

Only Oblivion that makes the 360 worthy of purchase, the other games just don\'t hold much gameplay or replay value.

I guess, the ps2 still have some life in it,currently replaying classic hits like Darkcloud and Drakan 2.

Anybody have info on upcoming adventure ps2 games? Thanks.

GOOD!

Perhaps Take 2 has learned from pushing up and releasing Civilization IV in it\'s $%#!@$# beta state.  In case you can\'t tell, I\'m one of the MANY (about 25-50% or the userbase) people who had to spend hours tweaking settings and system to get the game to run without crashes and slowdown.  Releasing something AMAZING and READY is better than something ON TIME (or early) and CRAPPY.

This should be in the PC forum ;)

I heard the delay actually had something to do with the publisher thinking the timing wasn\'t right to make the most money, even though the game has already gone gold.

Why get it for XBOX360?

Even though 360 is brand new, there are so many advantages to owning the PC version.  Oblivion is one game in my mind that makes no sense settling for a console version.

Official mods are supposedly going to be released for x360 version. Also, if you have a 720p capable TV, the game will look better on the x360 for at least 6 months until technology catches up.

Well, that\'s what the devs said.

Wouldn\'t you have to play the games to know that?

Yea the neat thing about consoles is that  the devs can work with the same hardware that everyone has, so they can max out & tweak what they got without worrying if it\'ll be compatible with so&so chipset, operating system version, etc...

But imo that\'s the only advantage compared to pcs ;)

Kind of bummed it is getting delayed, but at the same time, it\'s a good thing for me.

As of now, I have..

Ultimate Spider-Man
X-MEN II
Quake 4

None of them finished. I know I won\'t finish Spider-Man as it is a subpar game, but the other two are kind of fun. Not to mention, also been playin\' Madden \'06 and Elder Scrolls III.

my friend emailed this to me

Quote
Gameplay:

-Telekinesis allows you to move object at the distance, using the Havoc physics engine. You can use it to get rid of traps or trigger them
-Havoc will also be used to make the paralysis spell more realistic. Targets affected by paralysis will become inert and fall, possibly harming themselves
-You can use a revive spell to turn dead enemies in mindless bodyguards

-Blocking is active; you hold a button to block and push back/stun your opponent
-Attacks always hit, if you\'re in range. Your skills affect how much damage you cause
-With enough skill, you can knock the weapon from an enemy\'s hand
-Acrobatics skill allows dodging of attacks, rolling moves and other high level combos
-Opponents may surrender to you (and you can surrender to opponents to save your ass), but it depends on their disposition toward you

-The game features light/shadow and sound-based sneaking
-Your stealth skill, as well as what you\'re wearing & carrying, affect how stealthy you are
-Sneak attacks on unsuspecting enemies are almost always fatal

-NPC\'s (over 1500) and creatures (50 types) all have 24/7 schedules, such as closing their shop at night, sleeping, eating, etc
-They have the ability to go through load doors into other areas. If you\'re in a fight with a NPC and run away to a building, he can follow you inside and continue the fight
-They can pick up weapons, potions, any sort of gear and use them
-They can steal, get arrested and break out of jail the same way you do

-16 square miles of game world (40% larger than Morrowind)
-9 major cities (the largest has 100 buildings and is 2.5x the size of Morrowind\'s largest city)
-12 smaller villages
-200 dungeons, each with several physics-engine traps
-1000 points of interest (ruins, monuments, etc.; compared to 400 in Morrowind)
-150 quests
-400 books that detail the game world\'s history

-6 guilds to join (Fighters, Mages, Thieves, Gladiators, Assasins, Spies)
-Guilds give access to perks
-The highest level perks is a recurent action
-To enter the mage guild you must learn all 6 schools of magic at the magic university
-One of the high level perks of the mage guild is access to the Enchant service
-To enter a Guild you must be recruited by a member
-You must kill an innocent to join the Assasins
-You can enter the Thieves Guild by going to jail

-You can become a vampire and feed on NPCs
-As long as you feed, you can be a day walker and look like an ordinary person
-If you haven\'t fed, the sun will burn your skin and you will look like a monster

-Horses increase your travel speed, and can be bought or stolen
-Jail is now interactive, you can do a jailbreak
-Each city is unique and has some unique goods for sales
-Nights and Days have different npcs and creatures circulating
-Each walled city has a house the player can purchase
-Each walled city has a furniture store for your house
-Each walled city has uniquely recognizable guards

Technical:

HDR Lightning
-enable true white and a wider range of colors

Physics
-rag dolling for dead bodies
-rag dolling for paralysis/telekinesis
-special effects on clothing & armors
-realistic interaction with objects
-use of arrows to trigger traps or move objects
-realistic telekinesis
-9000 types of objects are physics enabled
-Uses the Havoc physic engine

Parallax
-an economical way to create the illusion of depth
-that\'s how the stones seems to stick out of the wall

Facegen
-a tool to generate faces using control points
-A convenient and easy to use tool
-You can customize your own look
-Modders can customize their npcs
-see the Race thread for more details on faces, hair and body
-included in construction set

Speedtree
-A level of Details system for tree
-Permit having a whole forest on screen without overloading the GPU
-Simulate tree/grass movement affected by the wind

Autonomous regions
-Isolate graphics details/clutter between regions
-see LOD section bellow
-permit Oblivion to be a separate plane of existence
-permit modders to create their own separate map
-permit a great amount of details for cities without rushing the GPU
-Autonomous regions are surrounded by invisible walls
-Autonomous region can share the same landscape, sky, etc...
-Of course they can also have different landscape, sky, etc...

Overall level of details strategy (LOD)
-permit to view longer distances/depth without overloading the GPU
-Walled cities are only loaded on an as-needed basis

Someone read it and post cliffs

I downloaded a huge Obilivion video preview a few weeks ago, it was in .ISO format so you could burn it and watch the video on a DVD player.

The game looks great fun, I was getting this for the PC thought it will probably run like shit.
