Flat Screen - Boxes

Im really wanting to get a new flat screen monitor for my computer....

Any solid recommendations for someone on a budget? I dont want a piece of shit though.

All TFT / LCD screens are infact flatscreens.

My Hyundai 19" CRT \'shortneck\' has a low curve but it\'s not really 100% flatscreen.

The real flatscreen CRT\'s are the expensive ones for 2D graphics artists.

If I were you I\'d look for a 17" or 19" MVPA TFT with 12 or 8 ms. Try to get one with at least 600 to 1 contrast ratio ; this should be a good monitor for allround purposes without sacrifcing IQ. (ImageQuality  )

(A TFT uses less kilowatts energy, so in most cases it will be the eventual cheaper solution)

Nah.. i wasn\'t confused   . Being thin is basically the reason why they started making TFT/LCD screens in the first place.

CRT\'s are all \'boxes\' yes.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 171V whic is a 17" flat screen (no DVI connection tho )  it was fairly cheap when I bought it a few years back.

I think the poll wasn\'t quite clear so I didn\'t vote.  At first I thought by flat screen, it can be any type of display (CRT, LCD, etc).   Beside LCD, CRT can be flatscreen too.

Unless you mean flat panel which is thin display instead of bulky boxy display of CRT.  Then no, I don\'t have a flat panel.  I have a CRT which have a slight curve screen...not totally flat, but the picture quality is much better than LCD.  I will take CRT anyday.  Until OLED and SED comes out with a performance to match.

Yes I have replaced the CRT monitors for both my computers with TFT monitors.

19" HP L1925 20ms (I think)
19" LG L1950H 12ms <-- Great monitor

I really recommend a TFT monitor if you spend a lot of time using the computer. Its so much nicer for the eyes.

the poll should be between flat PANELS and CRT, they can both have flat screens.



and I roll with a CRT monitor, and when it dies or I get tired of it i\'ll buy a nice big fat juicy meaty nice slammin\' great LCD

CRT shouldn\'t causes any eyestrain if you use the refresh rate higher than 60 Hz.  72 Hz and higher is recommended.  I couldn\'t see any flickering at 72 Hz.  75 or 85 Hz will be more than you need and I set my CRT at 85 Hz.

Uh... I thought it was pretty clear that he meant TFT vs. CRT in the poll. But whatevaaaaaaa.

Acer makes some nice budget TFTs.
